Satan made me buy a BC Rich Warlock a few years back. Shame he only busks outside folk festivals now. Then again he does play Mr Tambourine Man for 66.6 hours non-stop, so he's just as evil as ever.

i had never even scene one in person before until lst saturday when the Guitar center around here got one in stock, and i dindt really like it too much, porbably becuase im used to my crappy guitars haha
but i say if you like the guitar go and buy one if you have the money, it is one of the nicest looking guitars ive ever seen
screw what other people say

my 2 cents

I have been playing a jem with my covers band for about a year now. Probably done about 30 gigs and not one person has accused me of being a Vai clone or even mentioned Vai's name. 99 % of people don't even know who he is! most people just say 'cool guitar' I wouldn't swap my Jem for any other guitar-it plays well, sounds great, looks cool and NEVER goes out of tune!!!! what more do you want??

does it really matter? so long as you like the guitar it doesnt matter what you play. no one is going to say youre trying to be vai just because you have a jem. its like saying anyone with a strat is trying to be clapton/hendrix/gilmour etc....
