I suspect that his JEM70V is LACS, not premium....

oh, I know it is. Ill bet it was the prototype ibanez sent him for this guitar. But Steve does use MIJ jems most of the time, so its possible that this guitar is just another Premiim with a sustainer. But this is probably the LACS one, but I don't mind. Steve is a touring musician, so I guess it needs to LACS to fit him and his constant dropping, smashing, throwing, everything.

Well, how do you know that it is??? You can only predict, unless you've seen that guitar closely. And not all LACS guitars are 100% American, they receive parts from Japan, and just assemble the guitar in USA.

well, I don't know. If it means anything, it should say premium on the headstock. Steve already said he liked this color. I'm betting that he got it via LACS, then ibanez needed a new jem or Steve wanted to put it into production. I am guessing that the jem Steve is using was made before any plans had been made for a new jem. I guess they decided to make it premium so it would be more affordable.

I wouldn't say an LACS guitar would take a beating better than an overseas Ibanez

They use better parts, and the same parts-

Between Evo and Flo there has been 10000 necks on those things- I'm sure they all came from Japan- I doubt they came from the USA

ill bet Flo was a production model. The parts are better, but probably not by much.

i know for a fact that's not true

it's a made in japan floral print JEM

however- the LACS or some unknown luthier refinished it and added an AANJ

but it started as a normal FP Jem

LACS = Los Angeles Custom Shop I believe?

I would maybe like to buy a maple neck for my Jem70v one day.
Would be nice if Ibanez sold such a neck, but I will look on the Internet
later one day if I want one.

I ordered a Jem70v but it will not be avaiable before late April it looks like.
Thats here in Europe, and price was 935 EURO (€), that is a nice
price for a Jem I would say. At Jemsite.com a few people have reported the
Jem70v play very nice.

if ibanez sold it- it would be $1000+
its cheaper to get one made for scratch

talk to Christopher Woods- he can do anything

isn't that what I said? Production model = mij jem? I meant the parts in the american LACS were slightly better then MIJ parts? Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

if it means anything, Steve's sfg jem does not say premium on the headstock via Dave weiners pictures. We probably right about it not being premium and being LACS

if i made a bet i'd say its overseas maybe japan

it might not be economical for the LACS to build a guitar like that-

anything they make is in the $5000+ range, a simple JEM with a different color and different color inlay the Japanese factory could quickly easily do- even the indonesian factory (and considering the chrome hardware- if any part of it was made/finished/assembled in LA- all the parts were prob sent in)

it would probably take months to make- meanwhile the other factories are set up to quickly/easily do the vine inlay/etc...

so if i had to bet money on it- i'd say its not an LACS

i said some bad things earlier about Indonesia making a JEM--

I got a PREEEEMIUMMMMMM Ibanez made in Indonesia a week ago-

amazing work- i'm blown away
fret work better than Japan guitars- best neck i've ever played-
you can tell the quality is nothing like the indonesian factory that makes the 350s or whatever...

it feels and plays better than the few Japan RG's i've owned

IDK if its at JEM level but def best i've seen in a while

im just bumping this because i saw quite clearly the headstock on the sfg guitar he has via that harmony hut tour. And I'm wondering if steve pays full price for his LACS guitars (like, $5000+). It would NOT be worth it in that case, since custom luthiers could do it for thousands less. So anyone know how it actually happens? A tech told me he was endorsed by Ibanez and it was $70 per guitar, but he didnt talk about LACS. I wonder if theyre sworn to secrecy ;)

Different companies vary extensively with endorsements and within those companies they vary what they give to whom...

Ibanez i would guess gives Vai whatever he wants maybe 1-3 maybe 5 or unlimited LACS guitars per year free-

But he also gets paid everytime ibanez sells a new universe or JEM

same with Les Paul- every time they sold one he got some money

I'm sure he's allocated a certain amount of free stuff a year and can buy at a super rediculous cost more stuff...

I know ibanez had a while back 3 levels of endorsement-
one basically cost on guitars (which guitar center at times could beat)
one was one or two free per year of anything ibanez makes (TYPICALLY ENDORSEMENT DEALS DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO GET FOR FREE STUFF WITH OTHER ARTISTS NAMES)

AND then the last which would be a Vai level is LACS anything with Ibanez on the headstock- whatever they want made

One company i'm endorsed by will give me any choice of (insert guitar item here) for free- but i can't choose a series/model from an artist series so 'this guys signature this' or 'that guys signature that'

because they have to pay 'em

now a days more companies have extremely cut back
and most don't do free anything
esp all the guitar companies

i don't think that $70 a guitar thing is true
