Scenes From A Memory. I think it is really the best album I've ever heard (sorry Steve, but you've got the best song). Especially if you consider all the parts they took from Metropolis Pt. 1, put them first into Overture 1928 and eventually spread them through the whole CD, arranged and played differently, it is a master piece. It's just that easy.

If you don't take the word 'perfect' as a quality mark but as a way to describe music, Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence is their most perfect album.

Images and Words. The production kicks!!! They seemed more determined then. And lawd I miss Kevin Moore with them :x . Larie is a excellent studio vocalist. But for the life of me I can't understand a word he says live :?:

Most DT fans bash it, I think it's awesome! It's a lot more mature than the other albums imo, they usually sound like they want to prove how good they are (and that comes from a hardcore DT fan), but it's not the case on FII. It's weird I used to dislike Just Let Me Breathe, now it's probably my favorite DT song. \m/
Agreed. Most DT Fans don't like it and I can't figure out why. Hell's Kitchen is immaculate. Lyrically I enjoy DT more than any other band out there too - Hallowed Years, Innocence Faded, The Spirit Carries On, etc - Le Brie can write lyrics very well if you ask me - lots of good work.

Dude...LaBrie doesnt write the majority of the lyrics. I'll list the credits from FII (just because it is playing on my PC right now so the case is right next to me)
New Millenium - Lyrics by Mike Portnoy
You Not Me - Lyrics by John Petrucci and Desmond Child
Peruvian Skies - Lyrics by John Petrucci
Hollow Years - John Petrucci
Burining My Soul - Mike Portnoy
Hells Kitchen - Instrumental
Lines In The Sand - John Petrucci
Take Away My Pain - John Petrucci
Just Let Me Breathe - Mike Portnoy
Anna Lee - James LaBrie
Trial Of Tears - John Myung

As you can see, JP writes the majority of the lyrcis in this album, and it is pretty much the same in other abums. He has even talked about waht it is like to be the main 'lyricist' for a band in an interview. So really it should be him you congatulate 8)

I stand corrected. o0 either way, the man can belt though, which I respect, having a heavy choral background myself.

everyone sing-along now!!

Where do we go when we die?
What lies beyond
And what lay before?
Is anything certain in life?

They say: "Life is too short,"
"The here and the now"
And "You're only given one shot"
But could there be more,
Have I lived before,
Or could this be all that we've got?

I LOVE that song.....it was so amzingly cool when they played it live...it just gave me the shivers

As much as I love Dream Theater... they're lyrics... oh man...

Even though she seems so high
He knows that she can't fly
And when she falls out of the sky
He'll be standing by

Again, no offense to JP, but... oy vay... Haha

It's an analogy... though I have to agree. Some of their stuff does get a little "out there" at times.

Scenes From A Memory.
The way its done, the fact that the cd is one big story, IMO, is just amazing.
Plus, it has some excellent songs.

they're one of those 3-chord punk bands who write songs about losing their girlfriends.

BTW, the live scenes from new york DVD blows - I got it for my birthday, adn the stupid fantasy sequences ruin it. The part where victoria is killed has possibly the worst acting ever seen in it.

I'd say Images and words. The only thing that stops it from being a perfect album is the continuation of the piano part at the end of surrounded... That and it's not Passion and Warfare
