Anyone know how PG gets the ULTRA twangy sound on his white guitar (with the fringe), when he plays that country-sounding warm up lick on his Terrifying Guitar Trip video? I think maybe it's a "treble bleed" capacitor, but I'm not sure. Help!

Just email him and ask him.

paulvsgodzilla@paulgilbert.com

He usually writes back. Just so long as you have a clear question.

Dear Mr. Gilbert,

I'm a big fan. First, thanks for all the great music, and thanks for the hilarious and helpful Guitar World columns a few years back.

I'd like to know how you get that ultra-twangy sound out of your white fringe guitar on your Terrifying Guitar Trip video. It seems like you turn the volume down and the twang-factor goes off the scale! I did a little research and I'm thinking it might be a "treble bleed" capacitor, but I'm not sure. Help! Any info will be great.

Rock on,

Is that what those things are called?

Yes, there is a cap that's wired onto the volume
control to make it twangier as you turn it down.

Also, I use the 5 way switch to split the humbucker
and combine it with the middle single coil.

And I probably kicked on some sort of distortion pedal
in addition to the amp's distortion. The volume
control cleans up the sound, but the distortion brings
up the volume and makes it nice and sensitive.

Three cheers for PG! I just bought a .005microfarad cap at Radio Shack, and I'm feelin the twang! I might get a slightly stronger one, just for twang overdose.

Just like I said.

Paul is the man, he's obviously not too busy for his fans which is totally cool.

It's funny how some guys distance themselves from their fans and others have almost direct contact. I guess most would do so if they weren't too busy.

If you ever visit or post a question on the Racerx board, www.racerxband.com , you might be surprised how often he and the vocalist (Jeff Martin) respond. Very inspiring group of guys.
