Never saw a lot or liked a lot of rock shows I did see when I was into that stuff. I mean I saw bands I liked, but in a big arena I didn't feel I came away with much. I remember seeing Dweezil Zappa and his brother w/ Mike Keneally in a small club up close and it was very inspiring. Very funny 200 song medley. Dweezil reached out and gave us picks.

Paco de Lucia and sextet in 1995 was pretty much a life changing event for me. Front row seat and got to meet him back stage.

Al DiMeola and World Sinfonia group was good. Got to meet him too.

John McLaughlin and Shakti. Amazing sound w/ tabla drums like cannons. Caught him after the show around back trying to catch a cab and got to shake his hand.

The only guitar master I really love and have never seen live or met was Paul Gilbert. Hopefully before I die....

i also saw slow rosevelt 12 stones and Zug island . I forgot 3
I love the show that come to my town, they are usally small.
The concert had die tryin i got the guitarist's autograph on one of thier stickers and a pick. I got the lead singer of Zug island's tank top(i love being 6 foot tall and at the front). I got man made god's bass guitarist's pick. Over all i love the music but all the shows where way too congested with ciggeret smoke and beer flyin everywhere, i hated that and the fuckin crowd surfers kept hitting me in th back of the head. i hate smokers sorry if you are one but it really is a nasty habbit that only does bad. As for the drinkers be sure to bring you a sippy cup so when you get drunk you dont spill it on people like me.

oh, i know just what you mean by going to your first live show and feeling the energy and being hooked forever..... exact same thing happened to me. there is no high quite like the one that live music gives me.
i'd say not only was your cousin lucky to have you go with her to the Bay City Rollers concert, but so were you lucky to discover the joys of live music early in life :)

Yeah i do consider myself lucky !!!....I'm trying to instill that with my son...He is 10 and he has seen Smashmouth and Bruce Springsteen...and he just started taking guitar lessons.....!!!!
so we will see where that leads to
..but i think this might be a whole other thread....!!! :D

uh oh.. haven´t seen too many bands worth mentioning (i.e. internationally well known bands, I doubt that you know many finnish bands :P)
I´ve seen
Dream Theater
Slipknot
Metallica
Steve Vai
Eric Sardinas
Iron Maiden
Mastodon

Vai has been the best so far, Dream Theater aren´t far behind tho, gotta admit. They were pretty much flawless gigs, Steve just had a better show going on than DT.

i saw deep purple with joe satriani and thin lizzy about a year and half ago or so.

thin lizzy was good(wasnt very familar with their music at the time, still isnt), satch was great, deep purple was great but they (deep purple) played this 10 minute instrumental song.

the singer was telling the audience about the song and who it was dedicated too, but the fans were screaming so loud at the band just standing there it seemed pointless for a dedication. the song was just soooooo lame.

other than that, steve morse kicked some ass, as did the rest of deep purple
