Ronnie James Dio!

#1 Post by ChickenScratch » Mon Apr 28, 2003 8:11 am

I just thought I should start a topic having to do with my favorite singer Ronnie James Dio. For me there's no one out there that can wring so much emotion from a song and not sound cheesy doing it. Every time I hear "All The Fools Sailed Away" or "Stargazer" or pretty much any epic song he sings I can't help but get all mushy. Anytime I'm sad I can put on something with Ronnie and I'm instantly happy, when my mood needs elevating I reach for him or Vai.

Yes, I am obessed, no matter what band I'm listening to in my head I replace the singer's voice with Dio singing the words.

If you a fan of the man your free to chime in.

Dio is great! :D

Especially back in the 70's with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (one of my favorite guitar players).

I saw him like 6 months ago, he still got the voice. It's amazing. I don't remember the guitarists name (he's in Whitesnake now BTW, and it wasn't Reb Beach), but he was very good.

That would be Doug Aldrich, he's one mighty awsome guitar player. He plays with taste and fits songs perfectly even though he's a full fledged shredder of the hightest order. http://www.dougaldrich.com/

One of the best for sure. In my mind he is second only to Rob Halford

Halford's did some great stuff for Judas. I have British Steel and Screaming for Vengence which contain excellent songs.

My favorite vocalist of all time and one of the forefathers of the whole thing is none other than -- Alice Cooper.

Later.

I love all Rainbow's albums but the ones with RJD are my favourites. Long Live Rock n Roll is awesome. All the songs on that album are fantastic and it's one of the few albums that I would listen to over and over again without skipping tracks!

Also, has anyone heard the song Stars by Hear n Aid? Classic Dio with one of the most awesome guitar solos ever! Check it out.

Ok, I gotta tell you guys about my number 2 vocalist on my list. His name is Jorn Lande and he sounds like a mix between Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale. He's so damn powerfull and emotional too.

The first time I heard him was when he was touring vocalist for Yngwie Malmsteen and he slayed me in a live setting! When I heard him on an album after that he was way better by leaps and bounds when singing in his own style not simply copying Mark Boals.

His albums with the band Ark and Masterplan never leave my cd wallet that I carry with me.

Check his work out: http://www.jornlande.com/ http://www.arksite.com/ http://www.master-plan.net/

Dio Rules!

He's the best singer in the world, there's no shadow of doubt. I love everything he has made, mainly the Rainbow era. Stargazer, Starstruck, A light In The Black, Catch the Rainbow.... these songs are so beautiful.
Simply love'em.

It's good to read that there are some people here listening to good ol' RAINBOW, Deep Purple anyone?

Isn't "On Stage" one of the best records of all time, in my mind it is.

Dio ROCKS!!! The first time I heard him was when I bought a copy of Rainbow Rising in 1976. I also have Long Live Rock and Roll.

When he joined Black Sabbath in 1980, and they released Heaven and Hell, it was almost like listening to Rainbow. His vocal persona is very dominant, and it shines through in all of the bands he has joined over the years.

My favorite Dio song of all is Holy Diver. My band does a pretty decent cover of that song during our live shows. We tried not doing it for a few shows, and got so many requests, that we had to make it a regular part of out last set.

Doug Aldrich isn't going to be the guitarist on the upcoming Maiden/Dio tour.

Warren DiMartini from Ratt fame will be filling in as Doug has prior touring commitments with Whitesnake.
