Some of the ones that I like so far is:

Nuno Bettencourt
Paul Gilbert
BucketHead
Carlos Santata- (Listen to brothers)
Eddie Van Halen
Slash
Tony McAlpine- (never thought about him before)

Rex Carroll- another guy that nobody mentions. He's the lead guitarist for the Christian Band WhiteCross. This guy is my favorite! They just got back together and re-recorded their first album called "Nineteen Eighty Seven". Here is some samples:

In my opinnion, some of the players mentioned there are really ridiculous and i couldn't stop myself laughing when seing names like Kirk Hammet, Rusty Cooley, Michael Angelo, hell even John Petrucci etc. Sure, they are good players but remember this is a G3, where you stand next to Satch and Steve.

As far as my personal preference goes, i'd go with guys like

Richie Kotzen
Greg Howe
Tony MacAlpine
Nuno Bettencourt

I think they would fit well in the G3 context. I have many players that i would like to name like Allan Holdsowrth, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Scott Henderson, but their style would quite fit.

i thought his playing was fantastic but there was just no energy. i could barely sit through his set because i would get rather...bored. hes a great guitarist though.

Yeah, I think he just gets a lot of crap because he doesn't move around, but why care about that, I don't get it. :? The guy could lay on his back all night & I wouldn't care at all, I think he's great & both times I seen DT, he was awesome.

Why no one mention Eric Sardinas yet, he'd be my No1 choice

First Choice: SLASH
second : Alan Holdsworth
third: Tony MacAlpine
fourth: Jeff Beck.

That would pretty much cover all the bases for style I think.
If any of these guys were to actually play next G3 I could die a happy man! (but MacAlpine would probably be there regardless)

To go out there a bit, how about Charlie Hunter or Larry LaLonde?

Or go the whole hog and make it a teacher and students bash.

Hey Steve... how about infusing some fresh blood?..

Ron Jarzombek! :D

Also my votes for Dave Beegle and Steve Morse are still intact. :)
