Dual Lead Guitarist poll

#1 Post by PGHD92 » Sat May 05, 2012 1:22 am

With the last subject on lead singer's I am curious what you guy's think which band , dating back as far as you wish, would you say had the best dual ( two) lead guitar players ???? Take in into consideration both players , playing in sync with one another as well
I'm not asking for rythem and lead players either. Please pick bands whos player's really complliment one anthother..... Thanks..
Here's my thoughts,
Iron Madien
Queensryche
Judas Priest
And oldie , but a goodie, The Eagles (First band I am aware of that really put dual lead players into the mix)
Yes, even Def Lepard
Hope you all give your favorites, And when I say QR , I mean the orginal line up,,,, Seen them live several times and they were Excellent !!! First time was opening for Mettalica....
There's many southern rock bands who had excellent and talented lead players, some even more then two... Lyndard Skinnard, .38 Special.., And of course the Allman Brothers with Dwayne and Dicky ...... Dwanyne also did lead for Clapton on recorded version of Layla for you Old timers out there, like me FYI.....

I think the pinnacle of duo guitar playing is Cacophony (Becker/Friedman) :headbang

thin lizzy and def leppard deserve to be mentioned

but as DUAL guitarists and at times both doing lead stuff

Metallica

James/Kirk

James is the most underrated guitarist of all time

aside from riffs/songwriting

his TONE- is as good as guitars can sound

You beat me to it.

How about Molly Hatchett's "Flirtin' with Disaster"?
Not necessarily an epic "Oh My God, that was the baddest dual solo ever" song, but you can tell they had a lot of fun playing it.

The guys in Thunder do some decent dual guitar solos, especially Like A Satellite. The live version of that song is absolutely bangin'.

DING DING DING!! Saw these guys tonight.

Saw Derek Trucks open up for Clapton w/ his own band and saw Haynes before w/ Govt. Mule but this show and their performances tonight blew the others away.

20 minute Whipping Post closer. They were getting after it! :guitar

Oh yeah, after thinking about this a little more I realized there's one glaring omission so far in this thread:

You're so lucky. Those guys hardly ever come to Europe.

I'm not a fan of dual guitar leads. If it's done, I prefer it when it's the same guy that's recorded both guitar parts - for example Vai's 'Crying Machine', various songs on Racer X's 'Technical Difficulties' and Chris Impellitteri does it quite a lot too. Otherwise, they tend to sound cheesy and dated to me.
