What happens to the 'old' strings for major artists like vai when they get changed? Do they just get thrown out?

I was just thinking how many string changes vai and other major guitarists must go through (which I think is overkill) and if they ever thought of recycling them or not. I remember a mate of my dads was a roadie for Rose Tattoo here and he sent me a heap of second hand strings he had to take off from all the shows. They were in perfect condition still and it got me thinking how many of these just gets thrown in the bin?

Do you think this is a fair point to raise?

I remember Thomas handing me Steve's old strings during the EVO soundcheck in Glasgow.

That was the day he filmed the Under It All video that never saw the light of day.

That was a joke, by the way :wink:
