I only have "Sex & Religion" and Strapping Young Lad's "Alien", but this stuff is just killer.
I've only had "Alien" for a few months, but I feel like I'm holding my breath for those first 7 tracks. It's almost too tiring to listen sometimes.
What I'd like to know is what do you folks think is Devin Townsend's most melodic output besides those two releases?[/i]
DEVIN TOWNSEND FREAKING ROCKS!!!
I would recommend "Ocean Machine", "Terria" and "Synchestra" as being some of Devin's more melodic releases, while "Physicist" is probably closer to SYL.
That said, picking up all of Dev's solo releases is nothing but an excellent investment.

and the odd one out - Ziltoid the omniscient - a metal space opera of sorts, hilarious lines but one of the best produced metal albums I've ever heard...songs that will remain in your head for a very very long time.
One thing I don't understand about devin though is his "f....k subtelty" statement, because to me his music is incredibly subtle, rich, detailed and the heaviest ever.
On the SYL video "wrong side" in youtube, someone described the track as "being hit by a 800 ton nuclear train loaded with opera singers whilst running at incredible speeds".
I seldom use the word "genius" but if one takes into account his singing, guitar playing, composition skills, producing expertise, humour...I think he is a genius.

Ziltoid wasn't really my thing - there's not too much wrong with the music at all, but the nerdish (for want of a better word) undercurrent put me off it (sorry but I'm not a big sci-fi/comic book fan). I started to listen to Devin after I heard Synchestra (and obviously I'd heard him on 'Sex & Religion'), but the Ziltoid album kinda stopped me in my tracks
If you are into heavier music, then Devin is producing and appearing on a record by a band called Becoming The Archetype.

That's the channel detailing the making of the album. He had a lot of input and I'm told his appearance on it is going to be awesome.
