I actually opened this topic to see how people recognize hair metal bands, and few of you didn't even know if the bands you were writing down hair metal or not! :D

I'm lost in the definition myself even though I listen to a lot of, what are considered to be, hair metal bands...

So, I think we'll all agree on perms, tights and high pitched screams?

You can't help but watch Thunder with a huge grin on your face. Backstreet Symphony is still the best opening to any concert, by any band, anywhere.

Whitesnake weren't a hair metal band, they began in 1977 from the ashes of the then defunct Deep Purple (Jon Lord and Ian Paice were in the band of course too) and played a blues/rock style for the first ten years of their career. It was only by 1987 that they jumped on the "hair metal" bandwagon with their image, in a similar way to Judas Priest during their Turbo era; another band who had a career in the 70s, and you wouldn't call Priest a hair metal band.
