^^^ these last two have it covered pretty well for me! Might have to sprinkle in some Riot - Thundersteel though! :headbang

Is Operation Mindcrime metal enough to qualify? That's another one that comes to mind.

I'm embarassed to admit that I still don't get Alien. I've had it since it came out and I can barely listen to it... I just don't understand the structure. I'll be banging my head and totally rocking out when suddenly I'm not anymore. I feel like it does a lot of faltering, and that feeling is definitely intentional, I just don't really get it. I do love me some data dump at any time though, 8)

There's not enough Judas Priest mentions in this thread, pretty much the first metal band (sabbath were not called a metal band till the 80s, they were heavy rock). So I'll mention

Sad Wings of Destiny (probably the first real metal album)
Sin after Sin
Stained Class
Unleashed in the East
Screaming for Vengeance
Defenders of the Faith

a die hard metalhead's contribution:

AKERCOCKE - WORDS THAT GO UNSPOKEN, DEEDS THAT GO UNDONE
opeth - all
operation - mindcrime
nevermore- dead heart, godless endeaver
megadeth - rust in peace
enslaved - isa, ruun
blizzard of oz
syl - city, alien
death - last 4 albums
decapitated - nihility, organic halluncinosis
cannibal corpse - bleeding, gallery of suicide, bloodthirst
first four black sabbath
katatonia - all
in flames - the jester race
agalloch - ashes against the grain
lamb of god- ashes
devin townsend - terria, accelerated evolution
crytopsy - none so vile
at the gates - slaughter of the soul
dream theater - images, awake, sfam, tot
nile - in their dark enshrines, annihilation of the wicked
symphony x - divine wings of tragedy
meshuggah - catch33, DEI
LTE
metallica - masters of puppets
amon amarth - vs the world, with oden on our side

we are talking about "Greatest Metal albums" here, alot of the aforementioned albums imo doesn't make the cut, some examples:
octavarium???
wretched spawn was simply one of the weakest corpse efforts
war within was great, but not nearly there to be considered one of the greatest

the Great Southern Trendkill - Pantera!!

This sometimes overlooked Pantera album is 100% pure metal, and still heavier than almost anything put out today, or ever actually.

I saw them on this Tour with White Zombie and it was amazing!
