Imo, Tony Iommi came up with the best riffs of all-time. My fav Black Sabbath riffs from the Ozzy era:

Iron Man
Hand of Doom (the simple riff during,"you're having a good time baby...")
Electric Funeral
Jack The Stripper/Faires Wear Boots
After Forever
Lord of This World
Into The Void
Tomorrow's Dream
Supernaut
St. Vitus Dance
Under The Sun
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (heavy riff during "Where can you run to..")
A National Acrobat
Killing Yourself To Live
Symptom of The Universe
Thrill Of It All
All Moving Parts (Stand Still)
Dirty Women (it's all great, but the riff starting at about 3:16 is bad-ass)
Johnny Blade
Shockwave
Air Dance
Over To You

Some others that come to mind:

Bad Horsie - Vai

Stick Pit - Buckethead

We Are One - Buckethead

Nottingham Lace - Buckethead

In Search of Inbred Mountain - Buckethead

Lotus Island - Buckethead

Metal Church - Metal Church

Beyond The Black - Metal Church

The Spell Can't Be Broken - Metal Church

Death of Me - Reverend

Buried Alive - Hypocrisy

Twist Into Form - Forbidden

Serpent Moves - Coroner

My Favorite Game - Coroner

Natural Born Chaos - Soilwork

Psalm 9 - Trouble

At The End of My Daze - Trouble

No Love Lost - Pro-Pain

Low - Testament

Opeth's music is filled with awesome riffs, but the ending riff in Deliverance is one of the coolest riffs I've ever heard, & wisely, they carry it out for quite awhile too.

Yeah, I know. :? There's just so many cool riffs, it's so hard to single stuff out. The Sabbath riffs just grab you & don't let go, & I just tried to think of some other metal songs that have really beefy, crunchy &/or very catchy hooks somewhere along the way. We could go through many genres & find cool riffs/hooks.

Death's Symbolic & The Sound of Perseverance are also extremely hook-laden, killer riff-fests. TSOP has an AMAZING guitar sound on it. Killer riffs, hooks everywhere, cool leads, just a phenomenal guitar recording. The drums are incredibly AWESOME too. :guitar :guitar :guitar

Godzilla - BOC (classic riff)
I Know Where I Belong - Joe Bonamassa (very nicely done!)
We'll Burn The Sky - Scorpions (love the "openess" of this)
The Sails of Charon - Scorpions (genius!)
Trampled Under Foot - Zep (classic)
The Wanton Song - Zep (ditto)
Nature's Child - Triumph ( very cool riff, Rik does an AWESOME solo in this song!!)
Blackest Eyes - Porcupine Tree (main heavy riff, awesome)
Straight Through The Heart - Dio (classic)
Savage - Judas Priest (my fav JP song of the early era)
Believer - Ozzy (eerie, great mood!)
Truth Is, What Is - Trouble (Sabbath influenced riff, niiish!)
Brutal Planet - Alice Cooper (up-to-date AC, nice & crunchy!!!)
Gimme - Alice Cooper (ditto)

btw, Wicked World is cool, but I kinda look at the 1st Sabbath album as a free jam, Tony's kinda noodlin' around on that one, not much riffin' really.

Hoo boy, a list of my favourite riffs huh?

I'll cop out and say anything written by Hideto "hide' Matsumoto...one of my main influences and in my opinion one of the best songwriters ever.

But since that would break the thread. I'll just say the entire intro to Art of Life by X Japan!
