Planet X and Allan Holdsworth

#1 Post by GGGrev » Tue Sep 13, 2005 7:26 am

I didn't know Allan Holdsworth is playing in the new Planet X CD until now...!

I've got the 2 studio albums by Planet X and Tony MacAlpine did a great job of course, but I'm really interested to hear how Allan Holdsworth would do in the band!

What are your opinions on Planet X?

Great band...

Great songs...

Difficult but not irritating difficult songs...

And check out the song warfinger from Live at Oz.... incredible intro  such a greaaat timing...

BTW: ALLAN HOLDSWORTH????

They're changing the band all the time :P

I thought T.J. Helmerich did all stuff since Tony left the band... :?....

But that's cool news actually... Allan Holdsworth is cool...

I heard rumors ("rumours" for your British, folk  ), but not too many people were talking about it.

I'm glad to hear them confirmed, though. :D

TJ wasn't doing anything more than feeling in for a few shows. The two never planned on him in staying for an album.

I have been aware of this for awhile now. This album is going to be so freaking awesome. Tony is a great musician, but there is something about him that just doesn't do it for me. Allan on the other hand is one of my favorite guitarist. I can't wait for this album to come out.

Wow. Just... wow.

I'd have thought Holdsworth fans would be reasonably intelligent people, but I had a read through that forum, and any threads mentioning Yngwie Malmsteen have possibly the most childish, ridiculous comments I've seen on any message board.

Anyway, that aside, this Planet X album should be killer! :D

I thought the people at the Holdsworth forums were intelligent people as well, but I guess ignorance just gets the better of them.

I like this place much better.

I lurk around the Holdsworth forum.

Planet x is one of my favorite bands and Tony's like my favorite guitar player ever (it's a constant battle in my head between him and Marty Friedman) so it sucks that he's no longer in the band. With Allan it'll be a great record but I think it'll lack the heavier edge that made PX so special.

should be interesting to hear with the real allan in there, rather than tmac doing his best AH impersonation... :?

seriously, i admire tmac tremendously, and he his keyboard solo was probably my favorite moment on the latest vai tour, but in his more recent fusion stuff, he sounds like an AH clone to me.
