Michael Romeo, Eric Johnson (I love his clean tones, not so much the distorted ones) Steve Morse, and Paul Gilbert are my favorites.

It's so hard to pick just one so I'm gonna cheat a bit. When it comes to tone for me Michael Schenker has it, he's just got this quality to his tone that blows me away in every respect.

Others I dig.

Chuck Schuldiner - The perfect metal tone
John Sykes
James Murphy
Chris Poland

Eric Johnson
Joe Satriani prior to Peavey endorsement.

Me when I was young :)
