What I don't like it that it seems that you all eqauet the best guitarist with who's the fastest. How about Stevie Ray, eric claptn? David Gilmore?

Sorry man but I think that's ridiculous....

You always can be more fan of Satch or Gary Moore or whatever.., than you are of Steve but still being on this forum!!!

James Mankey from Concrete Blonde. Unique tone, unique style. Not flashy or a shredder, but imo, highly effective!

That's not necessarily the truth. We all have different opinions, and some of us value certain things above others.

I'm sticking by Shawn Lane, for many reasons - and not just because he's fast.

Prez, I dont think any of this has anything to do with speed at all or being the best. Its all about who your favorite guitarist are and what appeals to you and if that player so happens to play fast then whoopty doo get over it, im sure the guitarist can also play real slow aswell if he felt like it.

Anyway back to the point of this thread Dimebag Darrell was and still is my idol but there are others like Jason Becker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Randy Rhoads, Chet Atkins, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Robby Krieger and Brian May but the list can go on for ages.

Yeah, lots.
I like Hendrix a lot (after all, he started all this feedback-stuff), gypsy-jazz (obviously Reinhardt, but also Stochelo Rosenberg), and before Steve Vai hit the scene, Eddie Van Halen was my hero, and before EVH it was Richie Blackmore, and before Blackmore is was Clapton (it's just that I'm old  enough to have been listening to rockmusic since the 1960's).

I also like Brian May (esp. for his great sound and his harmony-stuff), Keith Richards and Pete Townshend (for their rhythm-playing, not solo's  ), SRV, Earl Slick, Robert Fripp and Reeves Gabrels.

But Vai's been my no. 1 ever since DLR's Eat'm and smile.

I agree

But seriously, I only just discovered all this forum stuff, and I'm not willing to spend hours every day writing on them, so I just picked a few on persons/subjects I'm really interested in. So, for me it is definitely true that I wouldn't be on this forum if it wasn't about Steve Vai.
