The meaning of "Favored Nations"

#1 Post by pri0531 » Fri Jun 27, 2003 5:53 am

I was working with a client and the issue of publishing came up (the term Favored Nations was used). I understand that the publishing company's rate goes up if the rates/percentages of anyone else involved in the contract raises. So in essence no one will get a higher royalty than the publishing company.

I started to think about the record label "Favored Nation" and was wondering if the "Favored Nation" in this case are the Artists that are signed to the label. So is the artist the Favored Nation?

Sounds right to me: to make sure the deserving artist is taken care of. I guess the name itself comes from the familiar phrase "Most Favored Nation Trading Status."
