On the g3 concert video, right before Steve starts to play ftlog, he does this high pitched stuff that sounds like harmonics. That's what I used to think it was, but now that I watch it, it seems as if he's not even picking the strings (or even moving his left hand fingers?!). The only thing that I can see him doing is moving the whammy bar, but he clearly isn't picking the harmonic-sounding notes, or at least he's not hitting most of them.

How in the world is he doing it?

Also, since I don't know exactly what he's doing, I don't know if it would be possible for me to play it with my gear. Would a sustainer, or sustainer type effect (if there are any) be needed to play this?

whoa, alright. I haven't even started to experiment with that stuff. My amp is too small for feedback lol.

Also put your guitar right up to the amp speaker. Have your gain or "overdrive" button set at the max. Put the volume as high as your mom lets you. Then get on your knees and act like Jimi Hendrix while you let strings ring to get feedback! :P

I tried that a little today, but I can't put my volume that loud too often without getting in trouble. lol

I did get it to feedback for a second before I had to lower the volume though, so I will be experimenting with that whenever I get the chance

Can feedback cause damage to your equipment?

thx guys
