If you know the right notes and finger positions. I have tried to play for the love of god, for years using those tabs, which are confusing, they are all wrong, they don't even tell you what fingers to use, is like they just put the notes, without even thinking if it makes sense, so you're left even more confused. This is what I always hated about tabs.

Playing the guitar is all about economy of motion, and playing a piece the easiest and with the least effort possible, this is how steve plays "for the love of god" live, and all his tunes. You may say, he plays it differently every time, false. I have seen every video and presentation, he plays it the same way, using the same finger, on the same positions. His way is very different from all the tabs. It is easier, and makes more sense.

For example, there is a run, at the end of FTLOG, it is a chromatic run. I have tried playing this before, and the problem, is that the positions itself, makes it difficult to play it fast

--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------9----------9-10-
|------------10-9---------------9----9-9-10-12---12-10-12-----
|-10-9-10-12------12-10-8-10-12---12-------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------14h15-17-
------------------------------------------------------------12-13-12-13-15-17----------
------------------11-12-11----------------11-12----11-12-14----------------------------
-12-10-9-10-12-14----------14-12-10-12-14-------14-------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have seen every tab and songbook, and they all have this part wrong. Steve does not play it like that when live, it doesn't sound the same, the way he plays it, is easier, but is so fast, is very difficult to transcribe

For example, he doesn't play

14-12-10-12-14 (stretch, which makes it more difficult to play something fast)

instead, he plays 14-12-11

nowhere, in his videos, he makes a stretch like that, yet all the tabs have it

his version, makes sense, is easier to play it fast

reading tab is not reading music

also - only 5 yr old piano books have fingerings

there are NUMEROUS issues with tablature and that's why it's not a respected notation by music professionals

but you're right

Steve Vai sucks at guitar for not playing his songs that he wrote like a tab book says he should.

lol that's why you have to develop your ear, and watch videos, if you want the play the piece correctly like steve does, unlike the majority of covers

also, steve doesn't suck, he has no obligation to provide us with the exact notes and fingerings, the ones that do are the ones who charge money for incorrect notes

hal leonard for example

i just transcribed half of love of god, to perfection with perfect fingering and notes, and is more correct than 99% of tabs included the paid ones

the most important thing is not that is easy or hard, is that he has a good sound and he can express, the electric guitar is not as difficult as playing for example an advanced song of Chopin with the piano, Steve is easy but it´s Steve and that´s because we love him
