The song, The Story Of Light is a continuation of Under It All. Velorum is heavy. John The Revelator is heavy then slides into a broadway musical. Creamsicle Sunset, well, think of I Am Becoming. Gravity Storm everyone heard already. Mullach a' tSi is a guitar and harp instrumental, scattered keyboards. The Moon And I everyone heard. Weeping China doll is slower but heavy. Racing The Wind everyone heard. No More Amsterdam is a ballad, Steve sings. Sunshine Electric Raindrops, think Die To Live. I do Not despise it.. I like it. Lots of layers.
I like the album but it could've been released 5 yrs ago. After seven years between studio albums I was expecting something differnt (double album). I like real illusions reflections better. The Story of Light is good. Rich, thick song. Velorum is my favorite song on the album. John the Revelator/Book of Seven Seals is good. Creamsicle Sunset is my least fav. Gravity Storm is good. Mullach sucks. The moon and i is ok but its a rerelease. Weeping China doll is my second fav. Racing the world is ok. No More Ansterdam is ok. Sunshine Electric Raindrops is good. I will give the album 6 out of 10 stars. I hope Steve releases more soon. This album won't hold me over another seven years.
I love it.
I have every single Vai album, and I believe that this album is the prefect continuation of his career. It contains so much that makes me remember where I was and what I was doing the first time my mind was filled with certain colours painted by Vai (where were you when you first heard for The Love of God, or Touching Tongues?). YET - it breaks new ground and is fresh and invigorating.
I would also have to rate Steve's singing on this album as the best he's done yet.
Steve is cementing his place in the pantheon of great musical artists with this album. If you are a true Vai fan, buy this album with total trust.
Well done Steve - and come back to New Zealand again soon!

Freakin' awesome.
I'm still digging into the layers.
I did get nice into Velorum, and that has such cool visuals playing through my mind!
(light rays and sparks of infinity in chaotic patterns, yet all in some kind of balance...)
Yeah. Hard to describe, so I'll stop now...
And Creamsicle Sunset is just soooooooooooo pretty. I could melt into that one for hours...
7th is, as ever, gorgeousness. The Irish in me adores!
and if anyone is interested, as I go deeper, I'll post more.
(and even if y'all aren't interested, LOL!)
