Said by the man himself. People are still entitled to their opinions though, if they hjate Hammet as much as they Love Steve then of course people will bash him. I'm sure there are many Hammet fans who think the oposite way.

I would bet Vai hates St Anger, any good musician with good ears would.

It seems when there is an anti-metallica thread it always comes back to St Anger. I won't lie I hate the album but when talking about them I don't judge them because the released one s**t album IMO. They've have produced some great albums in the past and have been a strong force driving modern metal, mabe they have sold out, mabe they havn't. I just know that there is enough good stuff on their early albums to cancel out the s**t of St Anger.

True they may not be the best musicians in the world but that kind of thing isn't important all the time. If they can write a good song (I think they can) then the quality of their musicianship only needs to be as good as the song requires(IMO).

I'm pretty sure that Steve wouldn't be playing Metallica because the stuff he plays is far more complex in nature. He's just on a different level as a musician. No offense meant... I like Metallica too.

I agree. How about Alex Lifeson of Rush? His style is very complex and innovative, like Steve. I think Alex kicks ass and is UNDERRATED. Rush, like SSV,both belong in the RNR HOF. 8)

I have a lot of respect for Metallica and namely Kirk Hammett's playing. I wouldn't have even attempted to play Steve Vai pieces having not been introduced to shred guitar through Metallica solos.

I gather that many people on this board play the guitar, and can appreciate virtuosity, although Vai is my favourite guitarist, Metallica have wider appeal (i.e to non-musicians, although I'm sure that some non-musicians like Vai too) and therefore you can't compare the two. I'm sure Kirk Hammett is capable of putting out an instrumental album (if his band mates would let him...)

I have thought for a long time that it would be interesting to see Hammett on a G3 tour with Vai and Satch, but I would also be interested in seeing the full stable of famous Satriani pupils up there as well: Larry Lalonde and Charlie Hunter included. It would be an extremely odd concert, but man it woul dbe interesting.
