We've all got our favourite vai solos but can you name your favourite NOTE lol

Heres some of mine

'stand up' from the Roth album skyscraper at 2min54sec
just like paradise harmonic at 0.42
'skyscraper' the lick at 1.29~
the riddle at 0.25~0.38

to name but a few !!
This thread probably proves that i have to much spare time btw i know that already heh

Oh, that's easy!

Touching Tongues - that break after the vocal solo where the whole band stops and he hits that 23rd fret D# on the high E with a perfect pinched octave harmonic right before the band kicks in again.

It makes me come, musically.

Seriously tho, that's one of the very few PERFECT guitar moments I've ever heard.

Interesting thread indeed, the only one that comes to mind recently is in glorious (because I just listened to it) at 2.18 just before the solo kicks in, the kind of truck horn to announce "yep, here it comes" and the wicked solo after.

I may post again later but it's an interesting question, as zeb says there are IMO very very few perfect guitar moments for me but they occur a lot in steve's music.

That one really does work.
There's a long downwards bend done with the bar in the solo section of Lotus Feet that slipped in there in the later versions, that I really like.

PS: Moved to All About Steve - seems more fitting there.

How about that first note of the "Call It Sleep" solo.

I always loved that yank up the trem "mouse squeak" note in "Big Trouble" too

and the last note of the "Blood and Tears" solo

and the 843rd note of "Rescue Me or Bury Me" (ok that's a guess)

and the sustained note in "Hot Dog and a Shake" solo

and the "talking guitar" aggresssive sliding-up note just before "...she's beautiful!!" in Yankee Rose.

"the blood and tears" the first note during the second solo with that crazy effect

"building the church" 1 min 58 sec it's two notes though

"gentle ways" 4 min 30 sec that amazing sustained note
:D

though every note is very carefully placed so this is a tough thread :D

The whole crescendo part of Lotus Feet, especially when Steve hits the high notes just after the trumpets plays the slow "Mannheim Rocket".

The pentatonic sweep in Blue Powder.

THE harmonic in 'Touching Tongues' is definitely a favourite. Also the really big diving note @ 3:36 in 'Frank' (I timed it - it lasts for a full 10 seconds!)

The notes at the beginning part of 'Blue Powder'; so powerful for me, makes me feel strong, victorious, whatever..

The "orgasm" note in the Riddle (3:47) and 2:45 in Window to the Soul. Harmonics are the purest form of a "note"...
