ICWTPTAOOIAAOTRHPMI....

Lets see if all of you Acronym lovers can decrypt that one....

All kidding aside, I am a long time Vai fan but haven't completely loved any of his albums since Fire Garden (the suite is my favorite)...I was unaware that this was out yet but will check it out tonight on itunes...It will give me something to look forward to this weekend.

Got it yesterday in its regular version. I've already heard the tracks from the radio broadcast, so I knew what I'd get on the CD.

disc one : perfect !! 'Salamanders' is my favorite on this one ! though the other tracks aren't bad at all. I just wish they put 'Ballarina', they've played a great version at the concert...

disc two : I like the idea of playing a kind of Vai medley by orchestra (Shadows and...) but always playing the same theme between the Vai themes is a bit annoying to me... that's the only 'bad' thing I could say about this disc. Oh well, it would have be nice if Steve actually played guitar parts here too ;)
I understand the music from this CD can be disappointing to some people... but listen to it a couple of times and you might like it better and better

i still wish steve would have (or maybe in the future) played guitar on the Frangelica II song............

just hearing those lines and melodies, and the harmonizing of the other instruments........that would make one awesome guitar instrumental song......

After listening to disc 2, I can imagine that if God had a moustache, Sicillian parents and a strong dislike of censorship then he would be shining his benevolent love upon the pate of his blessed son right now....

I´ve only listened to the cd 1 and frankly...I was very disappointed with it. the only song I could really enjoy was Answers, the rest sounded just like random jamming. I really expected more from it.

Pretty good album overall. Im very satisfied with the purchase of this album. The orchestra sounds great and songs like Answers, and Liberty are excellent. I think the best song here is Salamanders in the Sun and that is because of the use of orchestra. It seems as though, besides Liberty, for which Steve wrote out lines for orchestral instruments originally, the orchestra isn't very prominent. At certain points it feels as though one would not miss it if it wasnt there. Guitar and orchestra is a very difficult thing to accomplish and this was a pretty cool experiment, but at the end of the day it is still a guitar performance and not an orchestral one. I felt that a lot of opportunities to utilize the orchestra were missed and the orchestra played simply the bare minimum or nothing at all. Listen to tracks like Gentle Ways, there were a LOT of opportunities to use the orchestra to its full potential with texture, orchestration, whatever (yes I know the track is GENTLE ways lol). Also, I simply do not like the way Vai's amp sounds with the orchestra. It does not respond to his touch as it should and I think it results in a lot of missed notes and other excesses (see my other post about the intonation issues). Either way, I enjoy this album.

Gave the album a listen. I think it is really great and sound theories really suit the cd's. I think CD 2 especially express Steve Vai's love of music and his musical genius.

ohh, God... That's some fantastic staff in there...I've been listening to Sound Theories all the way through night...
That's just freakin' good staff in CD2 I can't express how I love the giant power and energy streaming out from every single sound I catch there....It moves me totaly...
CD1 the Aching Hunger - old goodies with the different taste. Amazing work there.
Kill The Guy With The Ball - that's so unrealistic feeling here..with the dialogues between guitar and violins, Oh, makes me drift and lose myself in this fabulous music
The Murder Prologue - I'm flying here in some other dimentions  so far from reality  That's the classic sound of Steve there I love it...I Love this art an' I Love You, Steve...

PS..sorry for so long writting, I'm so excited, I can't stop, sorry guys

PPS..I got the meet&greet card.. :D and that makes me twice as happy..

I wish I could go to the beach for a few days and just listen to it over and over without distractions! As it is...I've listened to both disc all the way through...I'm embarrased to say I am at a lost for words!!!

I still haven't caught my breath...I wept openly through a lot of it. To hear the songs I have matured with since the begining of my introduction to Steve's music nearly two decades ago performed in such a dramatic and profound way...it's impossible to describe what an affect it had on me, impossible!

As if that wasn't a gift enough (thank you Steve, thank you Steve, thank you Steve, and to everyone else who made this happen) I received one of the Aftershow Passes. :D Thank you for that too!

I FINALLY got my copy of Sound Currents! I know a lot of you will find my method of listening to Steve rather strange so I will explain it the best I can. Normally I will not listen to the entire album at one time but rather skip around and listen to a few songs and come back to the others later. This way I will always have something new from Steve to listen to. Seeing as you only get one first time to hear each song and my daughter and I have had so many great memories involving Steve we will pick a song and listen to it for the first time when doing something together like going to an amusement park or the beach and then we will always think of the good time we had when we hear that song. Well I kinda broke my rules.....I listened to CD 1 from start to finish last night by myself  . There goes mother of the year for me lol! I couldnt help myself. It is amazing! Mariah and I listened to it today and all she did was read the insert and look for anything involving Mr Oppy. :) I believe she enjoyed the CD more than me! Makes me so happy to be able to enjoy Steve and his music with her! She is a good kid.....hyper but good!

EDITED TO ADD A very dear friend pointed out that I didnt really give a review of the CD. It was amazing as always. Steve's work always blows me away! Mariah LOVES it! It will probably be awhile until I can steal it back from her. My Mom was awestruck. She said she cant wait to see the show this fall.
