A few comments after watching it a few times:

- Joe's 'Searching' is amazing & intense, I like it _alot_
- Joe's "War' is a classic!
- John Petrucci's Damage Control is also very cool

- Steve's "The Audience is Listning' is ultra cool, fun to watch and sounds terrific.
- Steve's 'Building the church' is awesome, I love that song so much..

- Steve's 'K'm Pee Du Wee' is fucking stellar, that solo-improv section is waaaaay off the charts. I looped it about 20 times and I'm still floored.
Not only the solo is cool, Jeremy's drumming there is just perfect.

that's 21 times..

The Jam is as it should be. Fun, not overdone, lotsa fireworks.

Loved the soundcheck bit :) That chicken is hilarious, I gotta get me one of those for the office :)

Cool DVD!

J
^my thoughts exactly

this entire DVD is very.. different.. in the mood it sets also. I don't know what it is. Maybe becuase you dont see alot of the audience or something it looks like their playing to themselves almost.
Maybe the lighting?
Maybe the food I was eating while watching it?
whatever it is its cool, and sends completely different vibes than the other DVDs - not better or worse (their all great) just different.

the johnson one is all laid back and cool sounding
03 with yngwie is all exciting and crazy
and 05 with petrucci is like floating around in outer space

Does anyone know if this is in the UK yet? I've searched everywhere and can't find it. HMV and Virgin have never heard of it and its not in their database.

DVD badly to record

#154 Post by francktira » Sat Apr 15, 2006 1:40 am

Hello with all,
I have to buy my DVD G3 yesterday and a big
unpleasant surprise awaited me, after the song of JS "UP IN FLAMES"the music is to stop there! There was then a film, without sounds, I
think that it was tchek or slovak or Polish, I do not know, but this
DVD I have to buy it in a department store (FNAC) which is very
serieux!
I am disappointed, I thought of spending a Good weekend, with
my guitarists preferred, but I will wait Monday to bring back it, I
wanted just to announce this small problem.
I have some to speak here,
in France, and apparently, to date, I am the only one to have had this
problem!
Here is my history on G3, but I quickly will change it and
continue to dream with, I hope for it, a DVD correctly enregistrer(I
nevertheless will not have all G3 with a defect)!
Live G3, and I wish you with all good Week end!

For some reason, it hasn't been released in the UK :( Your best bet is to import it.

I love it, but I want to add my criticism here. I don't think the feel is quite as exciting as the other G3s (though of course the filming, sound, standard of playing, etc is awesome). I think Petrucci's music is v interesting, but I don't think the Dream Theater magic comes across somehow. Dunno, but it's as though he shines in DT coz of his playing and lyrics and composition; as JP alone, something there is missing. Maybe the lack of the other DTs' compositional input. Anyway, I still really enjoyed his set.

JS - as always, a beautifully played set.

V: Awesome. Love it. What can I say.

G3: Foxey Lady - Don't think the singing worked well on that octave. Also, the rather stolid way they all play the riff didn't (for me) bring the Jimi energy across.
The other 2 songs: great.

So, a great DVD, but I think I prefer Denver and the Johnson one.

The best G3 DVD ever!! Though I must admit that I prefer Malmsteen over Petrucci...

I REALLY love JP's opening song. The soft solo sections is one of my favorites of all time, I just hate the wank section at the end it is totally out of place and sounds downright stupid.

Damage control...eh...w/e.

I loved Vai's entire set!!!!

Some of Joe's songs appealed to me, searching was jaw dropping until some of the random noises and shredding. A lot of it was good though.

I enjoyed most of the rest of the songs he played.

The jams just seemed too drawn out. I didn't particularly enjoy the choice of songs. And the little solo trade offs just seemed kind of un-inspired.

But anyways, even with all that said I give it an 8/10 :).

It's available in the UK in most HMV and Virgin stores now. Got mine in London and have seen it now in Portsmouth. Only had a brief chance to look at it so far though.
