There you have it, folks; it's official. :D This thread is dedicated to any suggestions/ideas you might have concerning the production, material, design, or anything else you might have insight for on the Real Illusions: Reflections DVD. We have a lot of time to decide and suggest, because from what I understand, the Europe tour won't begin until sometime in September or later of this year.

And since I'm already here, I'll start by directing you to the Real Illusions: Reflections Tour 2005...DVD thread for my suggestions along with other people's suggestions already mentioned before this thread was started.

To the moderators: I hope this is not a redundant topic because...
To the viewers/repliers: This thread is intended exclusively for suggestions/ideas you might have concerning the RI Tour DVD. The Real Illusions: Reflections Tour 2005...DVD thread is intended only as a poll and for all inquieries related to that poll... just to clarify.

Now, Vai.com members, America, and the World...it's your turn! You have a voice; use it :!: :!: :!: 8)

Lol, this forum is full of freaks (me included), we are already telling Steve what we want hahaha. Anyways, since are just suggestions and not "orders", here I go Image

Technical

I think Steve was the first one to mention the technical mistakes in the Astoria DVD (bad camera work, a/v out of sync, layer jump problem, etc.), so I think it's not necessary to repeat the blah blah again.

One thing that I loved about the Astoria DVD was the image quality, I mean, it looks super crisp, I preffer that 1000000% over the last G3 image quality (grainy, film reminiscent, just to say something).

I like 16:9 better than 4:3, but it's not important anyways.

Is it possible to have PCM Stereo, Dolby Digital and DTS at the same time? I ask this because recently I watched a Pat Metheny DVD with both Dolby Digital and DTS and man, DTS is waaay better (later I read that DTS has much more lower compression ratio).

Musical

Hmm, we already voted for the setlist of this tour, but but I WANT TENDER SURRENDER!!!

What I'd like to see...

- Solos from every band member
- More footage from the sound check and that kind of stuff. I preffer stuff related to music more than jokes, cause the last ones are funny just the first time you watch them.
- A couple of "intimate" songs, you know... just Steve playing something like Brandos Costumes or Warm Regards ala unplugged during a soundcheck, it would be awesome.

Ok, it's late here and I'm running out of ideas at this moment, it's enough for today.

Saludoskis

Yeah, i have a few suggestions too...so bare with me lol.

1. I think it would be a good idea, MAYBE, to record footage from more than one place...say 4 or 5 songs that were recorded somewhere else. I know it would be a little wierd when you think about it, but i think it would be very inspiring for the fans and for Steve.

2. Possibly a few different songs? Deffo keep the acoustic set, its been something i've wanted to see for years. But perhaps add a few and take away a few? i personally would love to see Windows... and Tender... , brilliant songs :) along with lotus feet and whispering a prayer, it would be safe to say that the audience would be floored. Oh and like the guy before me, Brandos Costumes or Warm Regards are certainly up there with songs i would love to hear.

3. Some crazy audience participation for the dvd? It would be great to have a few people get on stage and play along with Steve, but in all fairness....it just wouldnt really be possible. BUT! Paul Gilbert did a thing where he would play part of his song, and then a line of like 16 teenagers would in turn play solo's along with PG, trading licks. So it could be interesting to add something like that to the evo package? maybe just after/before soundcheck? Just an idea :) But it would be really great to get some people on the dvd from each gig....maybe just film the Q&A or something?

4. One thing i know that will be very hard in the uk is having special guests. Maybe it could be possible in england but i mean in Glasgow....there's not may famous guitarists really :( But it would sure be a brilliant thing to see some special guests on the dvd :) Like Andy T and Eric J did in america, maybe we could get old Clappers and May ? How much would that ROCK ? :)

and 5. Just give it your best, guys. :)

1. A complete concert

2. Documentary about how life is on the tour from morning to evening

3. Interviews with all members and Steve Vai

4. Some songs from "The Aching Hunger - Phase II"

Anything! But no editing! I want the full experience, including mistakes and all. And no guitars changing colours this time. One night, one concert, one DVD!

Out of interest, why does Steve tend to film his solo gigs in Europe?

My only suggestion is that Steve should make this DVD the way he does everything else! Everyone of his releases is just perfect because of his obsessive attention to detail-and in a world of slap-dash attiude to work, Vai's hard work is appreciated!

what I'd personally like to see is more steve vai...

I mean in the extra's. I'd love to have like a second dvd with like 2 hours of cool stuff. Maybe hang with him in the studio, he can walk us through what he does, or his creative processes. He can show us some gear etc...
Then he can maybe introduce us to the band, then do a really personal interview about the songs on RI:R etc...

It could end up even being like a biography...with the right amout of guitar goodness mixed in.

From the extra features, as a fan, I just want the opportunity to get to know Steve better; even if its just chill time with the band.

Awesome! I adored the Astoria DVD but here are a few suggestions.

1. Have a meeting with the cameras guys before the show so they know what to shoot. In the Astoria DVD, Steve complained in the commentary that most of the time he only had footage of his face!

2. The songs on the new DVD should not include songs we already have from the Astoria DVD. However, I wouldnt mind if they included the new arrangement of For The Love of God.

3. Steve should reconsider his idea of putting in text captions during the concert (like in the Astoria where he put the word "NOT!!!" ). I was relieved when he said in the commentary that he did not have time to put in more text captions! hehe

4. Continue including footage of hot babes in the audience.

5. Have another audio commentary with the band. The commentary in the Astoria DVD was hilarious and real fun to listen to.

6. More special features stuff like in the Astoria (Comedy bits, Interviews, Road stories, Backstage, rehearsals and sound check footage..etc.).

How bout footage of the band walking around sight seeing in the cities they're in?

Fretcam feature for all songs.

Hot Babes

Double Concert DVD plus 1 extra footage, bonus footage etc... DVD.

Britney Spears stories.

Lotus Feet and Whispering A Prayer (I think he's improved upon this song greatly)

Don't forget the duel between Jeremy and Steve (acoustic set)

section on the DVD talking about Steve's guitars and some insight into their set-up and components. Also, talk about what effects he uses, effects settings for certain songs etc....

mmm......Hot Babes!

I can`t wait i am excited all ready.

First of all i hope it includes the songs, I would love to, auidence is listening, lotus feet, building the church, freak show excess, midway creatures, acoustic set, Maybe even a new song as well. Would like to see all the classics there like FTLOG, WAP as well.

I would like it just to be 1 full concert not 2 edited together. I would also like to the a fretcam feature for all songs. Also would like to have bonus footage like sound checks and a few other songs from diffrent shows.
