... to postpone the new album untill he can make exactly what he wanted to do in the first place?
Personally I think it's a good choice.

very good decision!!!
a concept album is difficult to release and it's not good to compromise it by taking "strange" decisions just to put in the album songs for all tastes.
it's better to do one guitar album and one concept album separately.
i'm sure i'll love them both!!!

Stevie knows best and he is not one to compromise.
This way we are getting an album in a few months and is going to be vintage Steve, so I'm as happy as Larry.
All in all , GREAT decission.
And we really appreciate him keeping us up to date like that. What a nice little boy.

As I said in other threads, I'm pretty disappointed in the fact that we're gonna have to wait for a long time until we get to hear the musical, I was really anticipating it, but it that's what it takes to have a non compromised thing, then it's definitely a good thing. Not to mention that we're getting two albums instead of one!
And hell, we're all guitar maniacs and fans of instrumental music, so how could we be unhappy about this!

Steve's decision about his music is the right decision.
Nevertheless I'm guessing he's recorded at least some stuff already (ideas, basic tracks, and such) ...and I always will remember that he said somewhere, very generously, that "everything [he] ever recorded will eventually be released, one way or another."

Good for him!!!! I hate it when people compromise.
By the way I love two new box set CD's. I think the box set is going to be one of the greatest single artist collections ever.

This way, we get both an instrumental album (I can't wait) AND a full on concept album, which should be coherent if he now does it properly, as he said he would in his postcard.

As much as I'd have liked to have seen the new album soon, I can wait for the sake of quality... so I think it's a good decision- no point rushing these things.

I think this a great idea, because if the concept album flops ( which I KNOW wont, and I love everything Vai does anyway...) at least Steve will have another instrumental album out before that, so it wont seem that we'd waited ages for something that wasn't to everyones tastes. Don't get me wrong, I have every faith that the musical will be a raging success and im so looking foward to it, but some people may not look apon it like that
