Is there a "one that got away?"

Hi:

I'm sure many of the guitarists on this forum can relate - did you ever part with a piece of equipment and wish you never did for any reason?

Even with celebrity status and having travelled the world, I'm curious to know if there has ever been a piece of gear that Steve Vai parted with - both voluntarily or involuntary - that he hasn't been able to replace.

Not sure about Steve, but I can relate to this.

My first guitar was a humble Squier Strat - cream colour with maple neck.
I had it for about 8-9 years, and then sold it to a colleague, when I bought a new Charvel. The guy I sold it to emigrated from Britain to Australia - but at least I knew my old guitar was being put to good use, cos he was playing in a band. He did once come back to visit and showed me a photo of it - he had painted big black dots all over it !! He said he had also dropped it accidentally down a flight of concrete stairs but it had survived completely intact !

It didn't bother me at first getting rid of it, but now, about 10 years later, I kind of really miss it

Digitech GSP-21 Legend. Coolest processor I ever played through, I used to jam with that thing for hours on end. Someday I'll check out ebay for one.

I sold my Dunlop wah for a Boss tremelo (stupid). Then I swapped my Fender Telecaster for an Epiphone SG (STOOOOPID). From now on, I'm going to be more careful with what I have.

My first guitar was my dad's old Harmony Soveriegn acoustic. It was in that time, the equivalent of a squire, but now it has great tone. And he also had a Fender Telecaster. This would've been in the late 50's. He said that after he stopped playing, he gave it away. I really wish he had kept it because a late 50's tele would be an amazing guitar.

yeah i can feel that, my first bass - some Jim Deacon copy of a fender jazz bass. Had it for a long while, then in order to get my next one i needed to trade it in - didnt think at the time. Wish now i had just paid the extra cash :(

I've never think of selling my first guitar, and I'll never do it, I just love it :) !
