What wah pedal does Steve use in 'For the Love of God'?

I'm sorry if somebody has answered this before, but I couldn't find it. I am up to the wah-stage of the song, and don't have a wah pedal so I would like to purchase one that would create a similar effect.

Cheers,

Chris

I would guess it was a Dunlop

HOWEVER- I doubt you would get anywhere near the tone or wah tone out of that pedal-

Anything dunlop makes

I'd really recommend the Morley Bad Horsie-

It's the most Vai like you can get- and it may not have existed around the time of Passion & Warfare its the best pedal I've used...

It doesn't kill your tone and never gets scratchy and is always really clean

hi
in the passion and warfare tab book there is a long list of all the gear used on that album, the only wha listed is a cry baby.
btw the bad horsie is a great wha pedal, having no switch is a real bonus,i own a cry baby and a bad horsie and although i havent used the cry baby for a while i do seem to remember they are quite different sounding.
my cry baby is 30 years old and was made by jen electronics in italy.

Steve uses CryBaby 95Q now, it's similar to the Bad Horsie.......

There was indeed a list of gear in the P&W tab book. He used a crybaby, though I suspect it would have been customized and quite different to your stock model.

I'm not a fan of the dunlops, I find them too harsh and somewhat trebley. I own a Teese wizard wah and a Budda Bud-wah. I've owned Morleys in the past but I find them a little lifeless. I'm not surprised Steve switched to the 95Q. I owned a 95Q but I sold it. They are very customisable, but again I'm not a fan of the trebley dunlop sound.

I think Korn are the only artists/guitarists out there that used extensively (or at all to much to my knowlege) the Whammy-Wah pedal

Satriani and Vai used orig whammy pedals- and Vai has one in a MIDI one with a rack

If you want overall Vai wah- get a Morley Bad Horsie

too much is involved in the tone of FTLOG to make the dunlop he uesd sound good/anything like it...

It's probably a soldano preamp or a marshall jcm800 BLASTED

Steve was also using EMB wah's on the Whitesnake tours, good chance he could have used one of those in the studio. They recently started the company back up and are in the process of coming out with some new wah's.

For those who don't know about EMB's, they're like the Dunlop Rack Wah, being that you can dial in your wah sound any way you want it. Slash and Kirk Hammett also used them in the same time period.

Stock Dunlop Crybaby's are pretty fickle, you can play 25 of the standard GCB-95's and they'll all sound slightly different. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it were just a stock Crybaby on "FTLOG". Time and resources lends the opportunity to find one that suits the needs just fine.

I personally did NOT enjoy the Bad Horsie when I got mine, around the first year they came out. Wasn't deep enough sounding to me and after the optic sensor crapped out (had to open it up and adjust the LED a bit), the mount where the tredle met the base bent on me. I most likely got a lemon as they seem to work just fine for tons of other guys.

And there definitely was *not* a Digitech Whammy/Wah on "For The Love Of God". (Digtech XP-100). They didn't even exist back then and to add, they're pretty much junk.

Thank you for your insight andrew, not to up on what is junk and whats not, personally I like the Digitech, yeah its a simple pedal but I allways liked the deep n dark wah on it one of my favs.... you know I have and still have a few different wha,s cry baby ,boss , digitech, etc its really how you play them at the end of the day ,
Jimi Hendrix played some pretty cool stuff with his old basic pedal that he used to use look at voo doo child, and with all the tech today I havent heard anyone better his version no matter what pedal they are using so once again its up to the player isnt it.
Still you are obviously a very knowllagable person and Im shure you know this allready.

I was always led to believe that it was in fact the EMB Audio wah. Steve had it since around 1987 and it was his main wah up until around 1992/1993. He used a modified dunlop for a short period then went to morley. But yeah, FTLOG supposedly is the EMB wah and while not super obvious, it does sound like one.

Here's a cool vid from 1990 where steve uses the emb wah for his solo, including FTLOG: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFPL2uTcMTs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
