The only new news resha brought out was the 3rd test guitar with the mahogany body I think.

Steve must have given the basswood one away right after his evaluation... I'm assuming it was a guitar he didn't have very long.

Those new pictures show a lot more detail Mikey. Thanks for sharing.

Has it been sanded down to show the wood color Mikey?

Or the color difference is due to the pic?

No - the original photo on Vai.com is just terrible.

Eventually they will all be re-photographed.

Mikey, does Steve still own the JEM7PBK he used for Expo '92?

Thanks,
Dave.

I have that Guitar World from 1993 with Steve and Devin on the cover, in which Steve talks about all the prototypes that were made for the development of the Jem7VWH. I don't have it with me at the moment (I'm at work), but he said they made prototypes to test all sorts of things like the effects of direct-mounted vs pickguard-mounted pickups, body wood, neck thickness, etc. He also talks about developing the Evolution pickups with Steve Blucher. I've always wondered what became of those prototypes and if I had the chance to own one I'd take it, but the auction soared a little out of my reach since I've already bought a Jem7VWH, UV777BK and RG20th this year.
