My favourite Tone has to be From Passion and Warfare, Particularly on songs such as The Riddle and Blue Powder. I think the clean tones he gets on these songs and also on Sisters are incredible also.
I also like the way on Alien Love secrets, the way the guitar is really in your face, but thats probably nore to do with mic placement and studio engineering rather thatn tone.

he used his floral JEM with the Roland MIDI pickup stuff + a synthesizer for the sound on GloriousMasi wrote:I love that "meow" sound on "Glorious"...must be the Eventide...
As for the more straight guitar tones I love the amp/guitar interplay on "Tender Surrender" on ALS.
...yeah, I heard that too, the old grey (series 9000 ?) box that went in to 1/2 rackspace...right?Jeroen wrote:The Meow sound is a little Zoom effects box.

Mostly I just enjoy listening to the tones instead of trying to get them. I did try to get something inspired by this sound by using just a pick, my fingers and a whammy bar...a regular note with a harmonic hinted at & a whammy grace.

My fav is the sound in Building the Church(not the tapping) and p&w FTLOG.
The 'Die To Live' tone is simpler to get than people think. It's Evo, a Bogner 100B, Bogner 4x12 cabs with Celestion V30's miced up. There is a little delay in the 100B's loop. Compression is added on the board.another virtuoso wrote:Die to Live tone....definately one of my favorites

Steve also used a CAE 3+ preamp with a VHT classic power amp during the sex and religion era

i am torn.......for me all his albums have great tones....i guess it goes to the 7th songs to decide..............hmmm.........blue powder, ftlog, tender surrender and die to live, and whispering a prayer and lotus feet.... its between the carvin that made blue powder and the legacy for me. i loved blue powder at the astoria too so.. iguess its gonna be the legacy
