Doesn't he use it on Bad Horsie? I've seen tablature with the main part written for a 7-string (with some crazy tuning), but I can get a closer sound using the "4th below" setting.

For "Bad Horsie" he uses a massively down-tuned JEM (the appropriately titled Bad Horsie mirror top). I think he has it tuned to C...
Now, that's what he uses live. It's possible he used a Universe in the studio. It doesn't sound like he's using a pitch shifter...

No, not quite.....
Fire Garden was released in 1996.
Passion & Warfare was released in the spring/summer of 1990.
Which makes its tracks recorded in the later part of the 80's.
Was the Whammy pedal available then?

:)

whoops.

i was goin by the date on the back of my cd case for PAW, and it said 97.

You may have a re-edition of the CD made in '97 dude thats it.

About the whammy pedal that Steve uses I guess he has this modded version of the original one, he doesn't use that pedal on his effects chain between guitar and amp, he use the whammy pedal only as a controller for his custom made Rack Of Wham unit which I think it holds all the presets of the whammy pedal, also the pedal seems to go connected to that rack unit by a multi-pin/serial cable or something.
At the front of his amp he only uses the Bad Horsie and the Boss DS-1, the volume pedal goes somewhere at the effects loop of his amp I guess.

By the way, I really like how he use the whammy pedal on The Murder, Steve has an amazing hability controlling that 4th/5th preset :!: :!:

Regards.

Cesar.

Yeah I think he actually used a harmonizer for that, I am pretty sure it's the same old Eventide. 8)

Eventide adding a 5th below on PaW, Digitech Whammy adding a 4th above (heel back in 4th-5th harmony setting) on recent live performances, Astoria DVD for example.

When it's physically impossible to reach for the whammy, such as on tapping parts.
Not true. I can tap and play with the whammy. Like you grab ze bar right, and you push down with your arm while you're tappin. It's kinda... hard lol. But you can do it.
