Compressor/Sustainer Pedal Question

I bought a Fernandes guitar awhile back with a built-in sustainer. The sustainer is awesome, no question about that. But the guitar itself is nothing dazzling to the eye. It's a just a pain dark metallic green. I want to buy a better looking Ibanez guitar but if I do I'll have to find another soluti...

Ibanez Steve Vai JEM7V

Well, since I can't justify spending $1700+ dollars on a guitar(the Ibanez Steve Vai JEM7V) with my income, what I'd like to know is where I can get the next best guitar for a reasonable price. Something that's almost identical but doesn't carry the Steve Vai name(along with the Steve Vai price). Ca...

Too Slow

It takes way too long. Besides, the "digital" needle constantly moves after the initial 3 second delay so Im not sure its all that big a deal. Does anybody have any experience with the BOSS TU-2 Chromatic Tuner. I want to buy this one. But would I be wasting my money. Who has used it and who likes i...

Guitar Tuning Questions

First question. I bought a $10 quick-tuner when I bought my guitar about a year ago. Its very slow. I will pluck a string and it takes 3-4 seconds to get a reading on the note. It's very time consuming. So Im thinking of buying one of those BOSS chromatic tuners. Is that a good idea? Are they faster...

Looking for PC software to help me learn Steve's Songs

I got the guitar tablature for a few of Steve's songs and I want to enter it into a software package that will play it back at slower speeds so I can learn the songs and then pick up the speed later. Can somebody recommend a software package like this. Midi is okay but I would like something that ha...

The Aging Guitar Player

Im curious about how long Steve Vai can maintain his ability to play the way he does as he continues to age. He's 43 now right? It would be nice to know how long one has to arrive at their maximum potential. Im 32 and Im still trying to master just one of Steve's songs, FTLOG. If I don't get it by a...

Ibanez Steve Vai JEM7V - Why so high?

I really want to pickup this guitar. I've posted a link to a website that sells it. But why is the guitar so expensive? $1,700. Lets be realistic. I can't see paying that much for a guitar just because Steve endorses it. I mean, for the love of god, it doesnt even have a built-in sustainer. Does any...

I think you may have your statement a little backwards. Maybe its the kickass DOD pedal that makes my $99 amp sound good. When I switch out the DOD Grunge pedal for the modified BOSS DS-1 I lose some very cool distortion. Lets get down to the brass now. Is Steve Vai using this pedal on any of his re...

Is tube-type AMP any good?

Heres a description for a Crate GX15.

12 watt, 2 channel guitar amplifier w/8" speaker. FlexWave circuitry gives tube-type distortion for that killer modern tone! Crate's most affordable amp!

Is tube-type distortion almost as good as true tube amp sound or what?

What will the tube amp change. Does it give off more distortion than a solid state amp? Funny thing is, Im very happy with my DOD grunge pedal on the Kustom amp. Im not sure if I want to go spend more money just to keep this pedal. What kind of sound does a tube amp give. Does Steve Vai use a tube a...

Modified BOSS DS-1 Pedal. Im disappointed.

First, let me start by saying I have never owned or even tried a BOSS DS-1 stock pedal before having purchased the modified DS-1 from Keeley. After having read all the great things people are saying about it(and knowing that Steve uses them) I just went straight for the throat and bought the modifie...

To shader. What I mean when I say Solo portion of the song is the blazingy fast, don't blink or you'll miss something, part of the song which begins at approximately 3m16s and last for about 40 seconds. Yes, I've learned this song note for note from Michael Angelo's tablature and video on how to pla...

How to play solo in FTLOG

Are there any hammer-ons/pull offs during the speed solo in FTLOG or are all the notes picked. Im asking because I haven't been able to achieve the speed I need on this yet after having practiced it for a good amount of time. Also, I have been trying to play it according to Michael Angelo's teaching...
