"One must always expect the best from their heroes, otherwise one would never have anything to look forward to." You sound like queen elizabeth. I am as big a Vai fan as anyone out there and yet I feel Fire Garden with the exception of Blowfish is not that good. So there......not everything Vai doe...

[quote="kennydoe"]I'd rather hear one really well-played, well timed, well toned, soulful note for 10 seconds than however many notes any shredder can play in 1 second. I don't get people who say "I would rather hear one note played well with feeling than x number per second." That is fine, b...

When you fall into the "tremolo picking trap" try doing some alternate rhythm type of stuff in different time signatures....try switching between triplet and 5:2 and other stuff that isnt just 64th notes in 4/4 time.

I have no intention of telling anyone where Steve's brother worked or works if that is the case. I know I would not want to be bothered, and I give others the same respect.

blind devotion? ...please  all I'm saying is give the guy a fucking break! Yes, Steve Vai is a big boy & can certainly handle himself. He doesn't need me or anybody else to defend his actions. There's no reason too. it seems that alot of people are treating this one piece of music like it's t...

I am so disappointed. I was hoping for a more layered song, with a full band and such, but oh well. I too have a digitech effects processor that does this. The effect is called ya-ya. Anyone with this effect has probably done a song like this. I called mine "Little Ya Ya Song". Tiffany you should pu...

The key to the mean streats thing is where you are slapping. He is hitting harmonics on the frets when he is slapping the fretboard. Don't use your pick on the string for the Satch thing. To get an idea of how it works, slide your left hand lightly(not pushing the string down) over the neck of the g...

Wrapping your thumb around the neck is not necessarily bad technique. Most guitarists I have seen, including Vai, Satch, Malmsteen etc.. will wrap their thumb in certain cases. Using your thumb is very helpful in fingering chords as well.

I am not sure I should say....it would suck for him to show up for work tomorrow (if he even still works there?) and have 50 people asking him questions about his brother.
