When you change tuning you need to adjust the string saddles to to get intonation right. The way you do it is make a harmonic on the 12th fret. and play the note on the twelfth fret they should be identical.

Jumbo frets are more forgiving. That is the main reason. You will find smaller frets on more professional model guitars, I think.
