Those fingers can't be for real.

Can they?

Now I know how he's able to play those psycho solos...

He has trouble with cohesion... some of his songs have no real sense of progression or structure, and tend to veer into abstract noise or noodling... he also makes quite a few mistakes (inaccurate bends, muted strings, wrong notes, etc), even on the album tracks. And there are some tracks which flat...

Um, no it isn't.

An artificial or "pinch" harmonic is where you let a little of your fingertip hit your string along with the pick, giving you a squeal.

The technique just discussed is called "pushing the string into the pickup, giving you a squeak".

That is so cool! I love the way the LEDs make a circular streak around him... My only question: where're his nipple rings?

That is so cool. I always wondered where "Shut up, we know you can play!" came from. I think my goal is to have someone say that to me at some point in my life. Any more Dev-tidbits...?

Smart-assed as it may sound, I'm gonna cast my ballot in the "none of the above" category. Wait, let me explain... I've never heard anything by Dream Theater or Soundgarden. Pearl Jam annoys the crap out of me. I HATE Vedder's clenched-teeth voice and that thrice-damned "flannel" vibe. Nirvana is OK...

Aha!

Nothing wrong with having signature licks, though. The four invocatory notes at the end of "Die to Live" (A-B-A-E), for example, will forever be Steve's, and no one else's, at least in my view.

Look at the things he notates in "Little Black Dots"-- more specifically, the tempo-mental section.

Steve is a theory GOD. I get the sense that we don't even shown us how much he can do, technically.

Oops, try again... it's actually Paganini's FIFTH caprice, not his twenty-fourth. All the classical-shred parts are played by Steve, and all the hot slide licks are played by Ry Cooder. Glad I could help... 8)

Stevie used an Ibanez Tubescreamer to fatten up his sound... the 80's Tubescreamers are vintage now but they have reissues for sale in many music catalogs. I'm afraid I can't tell you how close they come to the original, having played neither.

It's from "The Crunge" off of their "Houses of the Holy" album... And yeah, I like to use the neck pickup too! It gives my notes kind of a "circular" shape, as opposed to the "triangular" shape from the bridge pickup. (I think in weird terms). If you want to hear a master put this to work listen to ...
