My two cents is that Joe is the more melodically accessible player, but Steve is the better player. In other words, people might think Joe is better because they don't understand the full extent of what Vai is doing. For instance, I was just confused by a lot of "Passion and Warfare" when I first en...

"'But I got a ring of fire!' he said, and held up to the light/ so I snatched it all away from him, and showed him how to wipe it right."

"That's right, it's the same verse again... Johnny'll never know what he missed!"

Bonus points for ID'ing the above...

Ah, this makes me happy! Steve's fans deserve something like this. My guitar teacher told me about this movie and I thought it had a nice entertainment value... I also remember thinking that Vai could've kicked the kid's ass up, down, and sideways if he'd REALLY tried. Congratulations to all the fan...

Hm. I would say:

Mark Knopfler: Guitar/vocals
Jack Bruce: Bass/vocals
Bill Bruford: Drums
Page McConnell: Keyboards

Taste, tone, and talent for DAYS.

Well, I finally managed to snag one of these suckers, mostly to see "I Know You're Here" on DVD... First impressions: Wow, much better camera work than on the Astoria DVD. Steve's performance was more restrained as well, and perhaps therefore more effective. "IKYH" is absolutely jaw-dropping!...

I hate Chad Kroeger with a burning, flaming, fiery inferno of passion. He gave this interview in GuitarOne magazine and I nearly burst a blood vessel yelling at the pages. He is the most self-absorbed ego-trippin' smack-talkin' futhermucker I've ever heard. He's like, "Yah we're not just grunge... w...

I really like Cat Stevens' "Tea for the Tillerman."
I also really like Strapping Young Lad's "City".

Go figure.

My least favorite is "Engines", by quite a long shot. I just don't like it much at all, except for "Until We Say Goodbye", the bass line to "Borg Sex", and the Keith Richards outro to "Champagne?" I absolutely adore his eponymous album. I think it's his most organic and breathing work. "Down, Down, ...

Wow, Steve sure slobbers a lot all over his guitar these days. If he doesn't look out his tongue will get all the practice and his right hand'll burn out...

(No wonder he wrote a song called "Touching Tongues"... )

Oh and by the way... GREAT PICTURES!

Come on, shacks-- if talking about this stuff is dumb, what would talking about talking about it be? We're all totally obsessed around here. Better get used to it...

And while we're at it, what WAS with that pierced collarbone-skin? I think Vai & Co. got into masochism around the "S & R" phase.

I think I prefer on the shorter side. Like the photos he did for the Carvin Legacy amps, or the picture of him licking the string at the Grammys.

I'd say pick up "Fire Garden" next, then "Flex-able Leftovers". The one is perfectly rounded, the other is perfectly twisted!

HHhhHmmm... I THINK that he made it up. It has that "words not quite used correctly" thing that Steve dabbles in. (But it makes his words more interesting). He also namechecks said church in the intro to the ALS tab book.

By the way, Radio Ga Ga-- I love your name. Queen ROCKS.

I quite like the "One Night in Bangkok" song. It's got quirky little 80's pops and thumps and the singer is very dry and amusing. And how about those rhymes? They're some the most imaginative and clever I've ever heard in a song. "I get my kicks ABOVE the waistline, sunshine."
