I've seen some videos of him, and all I can say is he is probably one of the best guitarists in the world today! :o I would love to see him in concert with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. 8)

The website links to "www.vai.vom"... I just noticed that. We might want to talk to the editor about that  If you noticed, Steve Vai was spelled Steve Vau under the Flexible information. There are some clarifications needed. Robert Fripp was mentioned since he is a well-known progressiv...

Steve Vai added to progarchives.com!

I just checked in the website for updates on awesome progressive bands. First I ran into John Petrucci. I thought "cool, he's added as a solo artist... afterall he was in Dream Theater." Then I thought, "Maybe I can find Steve Vai..." So I did find him. Afterall, he did work with Frank Zappa...who, ...

I hardly have any tracking problems. Whenever I do, it's usually the characteristic of the given effect... some synth tones run smoothly while others are less dynamic. The set up of the guitar or the synth pickup could be the issue. You might want to adjust the height of the strings and the height o...

Yeah, I already new that Tony Macalpine is in Planet X. I've heard some songs from Planet X. Tony is superb!! He's also a wonderful contributor for Vai. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Porcupine Tree! I agree, very ambient, I love their style. I do need to check out more of their work. I do have Liquid...

Melodic/Ambient Metal/Rock

Hey everyone, I've been a huge fan of progressive rock since last summer and I've been getting into prog metal, art rock, fusion, experimental, ect. When I got into Dream Theater, I noticed how melodic they are. I'm still blown away by them! They're my favorite prog rock band at the moment. They hav...

I haven't tried getting the Midway Creatures but I should try that. I have the GR-33 and I absolutely love it!! I'm sooo into guitar synths these days especially around Real Illusions. I was introduced to Roland guitar synthesizers since I heard of Steve Vai's demo songs on the Roland site. I...

I actually have the GR-33 but the GR-20 is very nice. :) The GR-33 has more options as far as tone tweaking, effects, parameters, ect. than the GR-20. But the GR-20 has the GK-3 pickup included and it's much easier to operate. It's just simplified but it sounds just as good as the GR-33. I tried bot...

Sweet. When you play the low B, does the E pickup pick up anything or is it just a dead string? Thanks a million. :D The low B string is just a dead string..... unless you pick the low B hard enough where it's flopping closer to the E. It takes quite a pick attack to do that, otherwise it's just de...

Right now, I use D'Addario XL 7-string (9 guage) strings. I use either D'Addario, DR strings, or Ernie Ball strings... as long as they are 9 guage. I really don't notice any difference in tone or playablility in different brands really, I use whatever is available at the stores. Cheers! -Sean

So what if I put the midi pickup under 6 of the 7 strings? Lets say E to e. I know I'll loose the the low B but would that work? That's what I did to mine. Yeah, you'll have to sacrifice the synth function of the B string. However, I had my GK-2 pickup modified to "fit" under the strings. If...

It seems that many people are going with Jazz III. It's a good thing that I got some Jim Dunlop Jazz III and Jazz III XL picks on Friday. I keep hearing about them and after testing them, they play pretty good. Better that my other picks. I got 2 XL ones (black) and 1 regular (smaller and red...

Yep, your first paragraph is correct. However, since you're not using the short cable that connects the guitar output to the GK pickup, you might get that ungrounded buzzing sound through the PA when you have the switch to guitar mode... Everything else is fine when you have the switch back to synth...

What do you mean by powerstage? Are you talking about the tubes wearing out at high levels?
