No it's not a diminished chord, diminished chords are root-fifth-octave with a flattened fifth (example: G Magor is G-D-G, G diminished is G-C#-D. The beginning of Purple Haze is a diminished chord, Bb Diminished). What you're playing, I don't think that's Gmaj7. A maj7 chord uses a flat-7, so it wo...

yeah, tape echos aren't digital like what we have today...

Personally I think that tape echo sounds less digitalized and purer, but not as bright or accurate as today's echos, plus they were (and still are) a lot more $$$.

question is analog the same as tape echo?

Use ultimate-guitar and search or browse.

Personally, I LOVE Petrucci licks, they're so hard to play, but fun at teh same time.

"In the cascading B-sections there are at times 6 guitars playing the falling melody." Yeah, that's crazy! Also, I watched a video of a live performance of this song, and this cascading section sounds a bit "thin" with Steve playin' only 1 guitar with that Sustainer pup. definitely so in the G3 Tok...

Right now I'm playing DR .009-.042s. I find that's the best gauge, especially on strats; it's not SO thin where you can't chord, but it's awesome for bending and tapping too. Then again, my action's super high.

that's cool, I think I might get the Crush 30R because I'm on a budget and if I don't like the tone, it'll still make a great practice amp. It's a step up from my 15-watt Ibanez. the Crush is solid state :( save up for a proper tube amp!! ;) or if you're really limited to that pricerange get the Vo...

It can't be a prototype, didn't Steve first design the JEM in the 80's and that doesn't look like a standard JEM scheme?

That DBK's pretty cool... but someone needs to learn how to use Guitar Polish (FINGERPRINTS!!!)

It's just my personal opinion but I go NUTS if I have too many fingerprints.

wow, these must be pretty cool. I'm VERY big on that '60's British tone, so I may go check it out. Plus, I might get a Microcrush just for traveling and bedroom practice.

I'm pretty sure he uses both a Boss DS-1 and an Ibanez Tubescreamer, depending on what sound he wants.

As far as Guitar/Acoustic/Bass? U2.

Guitar? These guys:
The Edge (U2)
Jimi Hendrix
Jeff Beck

these three have had the largest influence on my tone.
