Songs that sound like.....

Hey all! I was wondering if anyone else had a similar story? On first hearing "Glorious", my 3-year old son told me "That sounds like a pussycat!", and I had to agree - I really can hear that guitar sound being like a cat! Wonderful! I played him "Bad Horsie" and he went NUTS! Dancing around the roo...

Re: no time for guitar...

I can't be the only one out there. I work 45 hours per week @ one job; plus I work part time whenever I can fill in. Then I have a very understanding woman in my life who I want to spend some quality time with. My chops aren't what they used to be. I'm with you man! I've often thought "wouldn't it ...

Thanks for all your kind words and advice. I have learned an awful lot by studying for these grades-chords, arpeggios etc and learned skills like reading and playing rhythm charts. I've had time to think on things and I think I will try again (if I fail) or resit the test should i need to. My guita...

Re: Guitar Exam Horror!

I attempted my grade 4 RGT guitar exam last Sunday. I wanted to take grades to build my confidence in my abilities since I'm very nervous playing in front of people and sound like rubbish-I thought this grades would help! I practiced diligently and attained a level of competence that I was happy wi...

If you wanna see real eight-fingerlings, check out: TJ Helmerich: Video Stanley Jordan: Video And Dave Kilminster! I'd like to see that fella play with some feel. He's obviously got chops, but it just ain't all about speed and flashy techniques is it? I bet he could actually play though, and he's j...

One thing is to be able to sing it, every note, or at least the EXACT rhythmic phrasing to the entire piece. If you can do that without your guitar, it will really stick. I have been able to learn tunes without my guitar by doing that in the car. Just sing along to every note and rhythm. One mistak...

I believe we have two different things going on here, namely pinched harmonics and touch harmonics. Pinched harmonics first then. (This is NOT what Steve's doing in the video for Die To Live BTW, those are touch harmonics, or possibly tapped harmonics) Tony, to do pinched harmonics, try pulling the ...

Re: Please help a noob!

Hello! I just don't get it with Voodoo Acid! I think it must be the lyrics. Hey, what's wrong with the lyrics :?: I enjoy the song because it's so freakish  and I'm crazy about the vocal part in the song as a matter of fact  All the best, Angelika OK! I'm not gonna argue with you. As I ...

Wow, well, thank you once again, Ricardo! :D I really do feel this is helping me. Good point you made about seeing things for myself. I've played guitar for about 20 years, but never made any effort to learn much theory! So I'm trying to teach myself, with enormous help from the internet - which is ...

Hi man, welcome to the forums! I'm relatively new here myself, but I'm not nearly so new when it comes to Steve, or to playing guitar! Now, y'know how your music teacher/guitar tutor/guitar mag/website/whoever always tells you to keep practising?? Well, they're right! Just think about the things you...
