I would categorize them as a progessive power metal type of band. But that's just me :D Ya, like everyone else said, prog metal, but there is no power metal in there. So take out the power, leave it as progmetal. Power metal is more along the lines of Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Symphony X, etc. W...

That's 'cos Steve's a happy guy that makes mostly happy or emotional music, which makes millions of fans happy or emotional :D

Now, Petrucci's an excelent player, but I havn't seen much emotion/feeling into his playing(i.e like Marty Friedman, Kiko Loureiro, Steve Vai, Joe Satch etc.)

I read the tab and work songs out by ear, so that way I can just get an idea of where the notes are, and what the positions my hands might be in(guitar pro has that feature), then learn the rest by ear.
