I like his singing personally. I'm actually glad he didn't get Serj on the album. I think what he does in System of a Down is annoying at times. I'm not a big fan of that band, and I've heard basically all of it. The guitarist is a better singer than Serj if you ask me.

I can play with a metronome and get really fast with certain steady timings, but when it comes to stuff like this I suck bad. My bass player can come up with off the top of his head some like involving one note, a open string and pauses and it will take me like 10 minutes to get it down! This has to...

Oh no big deal man. I wasn't really judging what you said as much as I was just putting in my two cents. I know what you mean.

That is an interesting subject in general too. Capitalism. We may have gone beyond beyond the context of musicians forum with this one. :D

I can in some ways identify with the idea that it sucks that everything is expensive. It does. I'm just a poor college student trying to make it, but being a fan isn't about going out and getting all the stuff. It's about the music, man. I've slowly accumulated most of Steve's music and one day I wa...

Instructional Sites

I think it would be cool if we get this going as the thread where everyone posts links to all of the best instructional sites they can think of. No matter how much you know, there is always someone who can explain things in a different way you never thought of. This is open for anything really. Musi...

Yeah, I remember hearing about that. Didn't he do that with Lords of Karma on Surfin'. It was like two modes applied on top of each other right? Thats all some really interesting stuff if you ask me. You guys can tell me all about that stuff you want to and I'll listen. No doubt about that.

I got that Malmsteen collection. I think its pretty cool. A few of the vocal tracks aren't really my style, but I dig it.

You know, I added an Adim on the end of that, and I really dig that progression. I'm gonna try and jam over that.

What is that called chord mutations? Does anyone know anything about this? I'm guessing its some more cool theory I haven't come across yet.

We're using a Dell laptop. Sonar 4 is a cakewalk program that a few years old. They already have Sonar 6 out now I think. Thats a good idea for the click track. I've considered putting down the guitar line for the drumming to go off of, but I'm gonna do it to my metronome. Thats the best idea I can ...

Recording help

Me and my band are having a hard time recording our CD. We've spent a large amount of our free time the past few years writing all of this music. Now we're going for perfect recordings of the songs for our first album. The problem is we don't really have a good strategy for recording. We've always r...

You can do the monthly jam on the Petrucci forums for free. I haven't yet but I'm thinking about it. Thats just some soloing over a selected backing track.

I know this post is old, but why not?

Ever since I nailded downt the minor pentatonic I'd say that I've got a style. Its really grow in the past few years. These days I'm starting to get some good technique in the mix too. I think thats cool when you got the style and then you add more and more technique. I'm constantly judging myself t...
