You shouldn't have a stress crack in the finish from brand new. That is unacceptable. I would insist on returning it.

As for your worries about it getting worse, it won't. They're harmless.

Lo-TRS I and II are built out of shitty pot metal and they have non-hardened knife edges. The Edge II and III are a step up from the TRS but are generally not excellent.
