Re: Whitesnake - Donington 1990 Live DVD

The fact that this was released is great, anything from around this period with Steve is pretty much gold for a fan such as myself...even though this is not exactly an HD quality release...and while I don't think Steve was exactly the best fit with his style in WS, he definitely brought new life to...

:12 seconds in you can see someone named Mrs. Smith shredding like a banshee on an Ibanez JEM77fp!

Grammy's

Yeah those medley things are so gross it's like an incestous nightmare: Jay-Z and Paul McCartney???? That was like when Elton John played with Eminem and I was like, "You stupid old queen don't you know that jerk raps about killing off gays like you?" It's just really really hideously hideous. Porcu...

Aurora Borealis?

I was on Netflix browsing movies and I entered Steve Vai to see if they had anything interested and some movie made in 2005 called Aurora Borealis came up. It's got Donald Sutherland, Joshua Jackson, and Juliette Lewis in it. According to the imdb Vai plays "Billy" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt038703...

Guitar Tutorials

I know guitar lessons by guitar gods are really cheesy generally but it would be fun to see Steve break-down some of his songs and talk about the emotional and technical elements of creating them. Just a snippet or two would be fun. It's always fun to see his playing up close and we rarely get to se...

"Breath in my ear"

Listen to The Riddle on PAW at 2:05 when the drums pause he makes the guitar say "breath in my ear". It's transcribed in the PAW score. When the teacher enters the room in "The Audience is Listening" at :30 you can hear Steve in the background coaching the kids in the studio, he says, "Ok: yay!" and...

Real Illusions: New Reflections

It's amazing how the way music sounds can change based on where you're at in your life. When the album first came out I bought it, gave it once listen and didn't care for it. I shelved it. Then, I got an iPod I've been putting all my music on it and decided, well I bought the CD, I might as well put...

Porcupine Tree and Vai

I think P. Tree is great as they are. Although there are a few guitar solo's on the In Absentia track that just don't match the fluidity and tone of the songs. The guitar sounds a little out of place somehow, to my ears. Who am I to judge though. I just thought: WOW, Vai would really know how to sur...

Shred Ain't Dead!

I've brough my shred out in public several times and usually people really enjoy and respect it. I'm a performance artist and I usually shred in drag, old lady drag to be exact. I have a character named Mrs. Smith who's an elderly eccentric who's obsessed with her dead cat Carlisle. She shows up at ...

Technical Prowess is Sexy

Whenever I see these guys speeding their fingers into a blur over the fretboard and its so fast it sounds like a computerized random note generator I think about how much goddamn time and dedication it must take to learn to play that fast. I think about all the time I'VE spent on my technique and th...

Porcupine Tree

I just got turned onto this band and I really love their songs and their sound, right now I'm just listening to one of their albums "In Absentia" but I plan to get more of them. Anyone else a fan of this group? Everytime I listen to them I keep thinking, "Damn I wish Steve Vai was their lead player,...
