Great post. Some useful tips there Ive saved there. Just one question: I can get my Floyd to hold near as perfect tuning even when doing crazy whammying. Only problem I get is that I cant use my RG550 in my band with my other guitarist who uses a Les paul as when we play the same chords, my Ibanez a...

RAI, now thats an idea. Hadn't thought of that. I dont suppose you can suggest a good distortion pedal that can take me from AC/DC tone up to Pantera tone do ya.

Well I emailed Marshall amps to see if they could shed some light and I got this response: Thankyou for your email regarding the effects loop on your TSL 60 this is a parrell effects loop this means 50% of the orginal signal will be unaffected unlike on your MG 100 this is a series effects loop wher...

Thanks for your response RAI. That has confirmed my thoughts. I used the effects loop and it worked several months ago but I suppose there is always the chance that it may be the loop that is faulty. I am just trying to rule out the fact that people do use volume pedals within an effects loop with s...

Volume pedal troubles

I've just got a Morley Volume pedal which I plan to use with a Marshall Triple Super lead valve head. The other guitarist in my band uses one plugged into the effects loop of his Laney amp and this enables him to go between rhythm and solo volumes as we both share solo breaks but keep gain the same....

RG550 trem movement

Ladies & Gents, I own a 2002 Ibanex RG550 and have mastered getting the floyd rose to stay in tune and have enough flexibility in the floyd for some whammying. The only problem is, when I play in my band, my guitar sounds out of tune when playing chords compared to the other 'in tune' guitarist. Now...

I went through similar problems with my RG550. Check out jemsite, but one thing that contributed to my tuning problems was the trem stud as suggested by jemsite: Tremolo post stud not locked down - Set screw not tight, thus studs rock a bit. * Fix - tighten the tremolo lock down set screw with 1.5 m...

Or you could go one further and check for DNA!!!! Seriously though, fingerprints will be lost on the main surface, and besides, you need vai's consent to check against his fingerprints. (Trust me, I work alongside CSI dudes all the time) It is a nice guitar though. Its cool to have a guitar with som...

I use a marshall TSL60 triple channel and get a good vai sound to it. Just add a bit of reverb, delay and a tiny tiny amount of chorus just to colour it and with my RG550 can get a good tone. The Marshall is slightly more grainy sounding played dry. The thing I like about the TSL60 is the three chan...

Not long ago I was on a mission to find the P&W sound that Steve had back then and dug out the equipment list. One thing I found was that when Steve plays live now, he can change his tone from his modern legacy tone to a very P&W tone between each song. Which made me come to the conclusion given his...

If your looking for vai/gilbert/dream theater tone.
Check out a Marshall TSL60 head. Cheaper than a JSX and with a Boss ds1 in front of it you can get a good range of tones vintage & modern. The only thing is, it wont do death metal or nu metal without a good EQ pedal eg MXR Kerry king.

Yeah, I've had one for several years and love it. It's one of if not the best headphone amp you can buy. The stock sounds are good too, and helps you try out different styles of playing ie Jazz, acoustic, 70's crunch etc. Just keep fiddling with the thing. The instructions that come with it are quit...
