I don't think you could call his red house solo bluesy in the slightest, I hate it when people call a solo 'bluesy' just because the feel of the backing sounds that way, the solos on that by vai were anything but bluesy, they were ambiguous and abnormal, just like everything else he does. And I like...

The wisdom in letting go of any preconception (no squiggle!) is a joy to read from different perspectives on this gem of a forum. This just made me realise, you have to relax and do what you want to, then you know your own voice, not because of what you said, but because you didn't include the squi...

I've talked about this with someone before, not specifically vai fighting wylde, but just vai being punched in the face. As god like of a guitar player he is, we think if he was hit in the face he'd fall on the floor and roll around crying, clutching his bleeding nose.

The playing was fine, steve wasn't sloppy or anything, none of the players were, its just in steves songs his tone was terrible, it was really muddy throughout, which gives the appearance of sloppy playing.
Liberty was terrible though, the mix was very bad.

I think hes saying he'd like to play in venues outside of japan for once, since the japanese fans already get to see him play alot and he dosen't have the fame to play in other countrys as much.

Neewhan I loved that...it was...amusing! Especially the pause then the final note, sounded very...I dunno, like flexable, chronic insomnia with more effects. the 'ouch' they are refering to is to do with the difference between that and what they would normally percieve music to sound like, but I can...

I wasn't saying there even was a secret, merely a possibility or a secret, like the posibility of anything, I know what you mean, why should I search when everything I need is right there, in or around me!

Yeah I mentioned that it was what I thought other people might think.
But I came to the conclusion through many peoples answers, they all seem similar, thats not to say thats what any of them actually think. Anyway, how do you know there ISN'T a secret. :D

Yeah, you play the intro melody I think its 3 times with the neck, then when it changes to the same melody but with bent notes, change to bridge pickup, then when it goes into the slide melody change back to neck, then when it goes back into the beginning melody with the pentatonics and bent notes c...

There may be a secret, that is so secret nobody knows it, but I think if you asked someone, their perception of that secret would be 'melodic control and technical ability mixed with a good rythmic foundation and theoretical knowledge' at least, thats what I think the experienced guitarist/musician ...

That clip of playing eugenes trick bag is ok...but...it has none of the feel that the original has, it might be because the tone sounds so thin, or because theres no dynamics, so as a peice to imply how its supposed to be played its not too helpful.

Just out of curiousity, will most major stores in britain have it on the release day like with real illusions? Cause I phoned round a few places and there weren't any due to arrive and that it was an american special order.

I would have to say that as far as technique goes, vai could possibly have more technique than rusty cooley, and as far as being able to express himself goes, he can play far more expressively at speed then possibly anyone else, I'm still slightly euphoric from my vai show on the 19th, so in my eyes...
