Re: Announcing Steve Vai’s 2012 North American Fall Tour!

Great news!

Question-who's in the band these days? This tour is right after the G3 tour, so I'm assuming it will be the same band, so who's in the current G3 band? Jeremy Colson still on drums?

I watched my copy yesterday. Very entertaining dvd. Before hearing or seeing any of it (I don't have the cd), I was a little suspect of the song selection. However, they all come off pretty damn good. But I am still left with the "what if he had played...[fill in the blank]". My favorites (right now...

That is an interesting similarity in Kung Fu. But as someone has sort of pointed out, I hear those similarities all the time. I don't think this one resonates anymore than others I have heard. It seems I've read someplace that FTLOG was some sort of ode to Zappa, written in the same vein as Watermel...

Unfortunately, if local promoters don't make offers when Steve's tour booking is taking place it means Steve won't play in that particular area. If you want to see Steve in Texas next time he tours, contact your local Live Nation promoters (or other reputable promoter) and tell them you want Vai! M...

So true; and some people expect a live CD to sound like the concert, and that's simply not possible either.

For me Vai's most powerful moment was seeing him live. We all have these little moments of clarity or bliss at an event or concert. Most often these moments are hard to describe (or sound silly when one tries) because they're so unique to each individual. For me, Building the Church was a most power...

On October 24, 2006 Restless Records will release "Butchering The Beatles" -- featuring the BIGGEST, the BADDEST, the HEAVIEST all-star line-up ever assembled to honor what is arguably the greatest band ever -- THE BEATLES. All-in-all, over 50 internationally known recording artists bring their uniq...

I just heard...

I just heard (on the radio) that Steve will be playing on a Beatles tribute recording along side some other classic rockers such as Alice Cooper and Billy Gibbons and others. Apparently the theme of this recording will be to "kick it up a notch" on their music.

Great post Steve!! Thanks!!

What Zappa song are you refering to?

I think I have narrowed it down to one of 4 or 5 that were played. But I am going from a distant memory; it's been awhile (many years) since I've watched that show.

I finally got this dvd. Just a few comments. John Petrucci - I am not familiar with his solo material, and I have limited knowledge of DT's music. Overall I very much enjoyed his performance and playing. There's something about his style of playing that reminds me (if I had only dedicated my...

Upon reading the title of the original thread, I think Steve is still in the "rockstar" mode now. His live shows are still loud, heavy and instense; maybe not from a purely physical standpoint (ie clothes/stage movement), but musically it's a "rockshow". I realize he has worked outside that box; but...

From the ZPZ reviews that have come in so far, I am slightly surprised at the set list. It appears to be mostly 70's Zappa, with a few from the 60's. Don't get me wrong, the setlist represents some of FZ's finest work so I am not complaining. But I would have thought some of the 80's material might ...

When you see a list of his albums like that, you realize that nearly all of them have few gems on them. Quite a body of work I must say.

The topic is Steve Vai's Skills...

Vai's guitar skills are unlike any other guitar player I have heard. He's very expressive and unique. I haven't heard "every guitarist" out there, but Vai's niche is very entertaining for me, much in the same way Hendrix's style is very entertainng for me.

Who has Al Dimeola's Splendido Hotel?

I dusted this cd off recently. A really cool recording that was released in 1980. One song in particular that sort of captivated me was the first one named Alien Chase On Arabian Desert. Sounded familiar... The Splendido Hotel recording is a good Al Di cd to pick up for those of you who haven't hear...
