Re: Passion & Warfare Tab book

Since things are getting all revival-y : my vintage P & W tab book is all messed up, pages come unglued - time for a new one, I guess. I'm just wondering if anybody could tell me whether the current edition fixed the numerous tab typos the original had. This is the perfect opportunity to just use y...

Re: 5 June 2016 - Manchester, UK - PAW Tour

Oh , we were all drenched toward the back ! I heard that O2 venues turn the heating up full, to make everyone drink more ,( they make their money from the bar takings ). Everyone around me had wet hair , we were roasting in an oven ! It was a great gig though , albeit a 'greatest hits ' set ive see...

Re: 5 June 2016 - Manchester, UK - PAW Tour

I think I've read that Steve is coming back to Europe to do a second leg later in the year. Next time I'm taking the misses to the London Palladium. A place more befitting of Mr Vai! I really hope this is true, coz I'll definitely be going to see him live again if it is. In fact I'm already there!!...

Re: 5 June 2016 - Manchester, UK - PAW Tour

I left at the start of 'build me a song ' , I figured I had seen the big by then, he had played my favourites , ive seen him 15-20 times already, over the years , and I needed to get last tram or pay £20 in a taxi ! Ive stood in Death Valley , the hottest place recorded on planet earth , but I wasn...

Re: 5 June 2016 - Manchester, UK - PAW Tour

The show was amazing. But a downside: I was in the middle of the floor and on occasions the sound was pants! My son figured it was when Colson went mental on the kicks - and everything got very distorted & mushy. It was worst when the harmoniser effects were running. I think the stage was too small...

Re: Tremol-no

This discussion just seems to be going around in circles so I'm ending my involvement here. Conclusion: I wasn't impressed with it. If/When you buy one you can make your own opinion. I completely agree. They are absolute shit and don't do what they advertise. I've fallen for it twice thinking the f...

Re: Recommendations to start learning guitar for my daughter

I would say private lessons are best to begin with. As for type of guitar and style, it all depends on the music she likes and would like to play. If you want her to stand the best chance of continuing to play, it has to be music that excites her. As for how many hours per week, it's not really that...

Re: If you could only have 1 Vai album What one would you ha

Such a difficult one! I'd say P&W too, but ALS and Fire Garden come close!

For Satch, it would have to be The Extremist album for me, followed by Flying in a Blue Dream.

Re: So Happy, Flex-Able song, quarter tones

You can quite easily do quarter tones on the guitar with either your fingers or the whammy. Steve probably uses both. Just plug your guitar into a tuner and experiment. For instance you can bend a note that is less than a semitone. The vibrations of the string are continuous and not discrete. :)

Re: This section will close

Hi Jeroen. On the news page the 'Happy Happy, Merry Merry' entry contains a parable that is not quite right. The formatting seems strange and there are sections of it missing. It should read: Conversation in the Womb – A Parable of Life After Delivery Salaam and Greetings of Peace: In a mother’s wom...

Ha! I think we all suffer from this western disease of "needing" more stuff. I've done it so many times too!

Re: what do you play from

It's an interesting question in itself. Which part of the brain do we consider the heart, and which part is for cold hard logic? The real heart is just a pump after all. It's weird how we all dissociate those two aspects of ourselves, but they are both in the same brain. It's like we have multiple p...

Re: I'm Starting to Get Bored of Playing

Only if music is your living you have a serious problem. If you is only a hobby musican (like me) don't worry. Sorry, I am being very presumptuous! Of course there is nothing wrong with being a hobby musician. We probably make up 99% of this forum! Funny story: When I got my first job, I saved up a...

Re: 15 hours

yep playing for long periods of time results in improvement I'm not convinced it does. Fifteen hours of carefully structured practice is good, but most of the time if you are just spending that time noodling and playing things you can already play well - then you're wasting your time. Two hours of ...
