It's kind of stupid to say that Hendrix didn't know any theory. He just had his own names for things. And it's kind of stupid to refuse to learn theory because he didn't have anyone to learn 'formal theory' from. I'm sure he would have if he'd hung out with other than blues people. Who the heck need...

Re: What's The Difference Between...?

I know that this is a question that a guitarist who has been playing for three years should be able to answer, but I have very little knowledge on theory. No problem, I didn't start learning theory until after 4 years of playing. Though I recommend to begin as early as you can. It's very useful to ...

A fun project would be to take an existing movie and re-make the soundtrack. Compose the music and record the dialogues with your friends!

Haha, what I great idea! I think I'm going to do it myself!

while I agree, i doubt that most masters achieved the ability to improvise by simply transcribing songs by ear You're partially correct I believe, but I also believe that transcribing is the best method to get closer to 'getting out' what you hear in your head. It's more difficult than transcribing...

i dont agree with the above post I can't believe that you disagree with the whole post, and if that's the case there isn't the openmindness needed to have a discussion. This is what it is, isn't it? A discussion about a subject. Well, if you don't have any comments, I might as well share some of my...

I think you are being irrational. ...maybe I am. It's because I simply see transcibing as a great method to learn music. Arguing about it makes me focus on specific details and that again makes it hard for me to keep the 'big picture' in mind. But hey, I think we all got good points here so it's al...

There are some very valid points about the benefits of tablature but still - as I see it - the most important asset you can have as a musician is a good ear. There are very few players that are restricted by their technique. I'm talking about things you can hear in your head and how well you apply t...

Figure out what the root is. Then listen for the third. Is it minor or major? Major or minor seventh? Is there more notes in the chord?

I've been having problems with chronic muscle pain in my left arm shoulder and pecs lately on my left arm. Does anyone one know of any good warm up exercises? Yep. Stop smoking! I did it for a few weeks and it was amazing what it did for the blood circulation. Too bad I couldn't keep it up. Must tr...

I'm sure I'm over the top with a few points but on the other hand some of you misunderstood parts of what I said. The important question as I see it is... Because tab is an aid to help beginning guitarists, shouldn't we get rid of this bad habit as soon as possible and start with real notation? And....
