The Les Paul's tone is very unique because it's actually quite bad. This is inherent to the bridge design, which hampers the string vibration over the pickups. Just compare any PRS to any Gibson. The RG2550E has real DiMarzios specially made to Ibanez' wishes, and a very nice 5-piece neck. Since I played a 2006 model, I've been advising them ever since. Don't worry about stress cracks...Jems are as tough as they come. Just don't run into walls with your guitar strapped on. And only the finish gets cracked...not the wood.

Lube the knife edges with WD40, graphite or something. And you might want to check the locking nut. It wouldn't be the first time mounting screws weren't tight enough and the locking nut itself was loose.
