my advice is to learn a couple pentatonic postions all over the fretboard and the major scale that goes over it in the same place. Dont bother trying to tackle all the notes in all the keys right away, it will do you no good. Get to know those pentatonic scales and major scales very well over the ne...

Wow man, you really know what to play, but you can't play it worth a damn! Ha ha ha, it's almost the exact opposite for me, I spent too much damn time just making my legato, picking, sweeping and whatnot as solid as possible, but never learned much about theory. I would never play a jem either, but ...

Well NeeWhan, let me give you a little story. I have just developed a case of thrombosed hemorrhoids, which are extremely painful... I wish all I had was a bad case of the shits... I can't sit, I can't stand... it all sucks. So how am I to play guitar, you might ask? I recently went to jam with a ne...

Steve sweeps a lot, but unlike many shredders, it isnt like "ok, playing melody now.. wait for it.. wait for it... sweeping! sweep!! sweep!!! long totally show-off and un-musically obvious and extensive sweep picking section!!!" (cough, cough tony macalpine, cough cough) He incorporates sweeping int...

No.He makes mistakes, but they are very small ones such as missing one picked note out of a string skipping sequence or maybe hitting one note considerably lighter than the rest or something like that which is probably not noticeable at all by the casual listener. However, they are mistakes which ar...

Xavier, that is the worst idea i have ever heard.

PS: Steve screws up live a lot, he's just really good so his mistakes, while common, are never train wrecks.

Are you sure you didnt change your post? Maybe I just missed it before, I thought all you said was "being able to figure this out without cheating is bragable". And I thought that was in relation to the notation, because I didnt see your few words about transcribing by ear. It kind of sucked...

My first remark was meant for shader, not the original poster. Great work that you have trascribed such a difficult song! Transcribing a song is tough, but shader, what you had originally said was that being able to understand that notation would be tough, and that is not too true. Anyway... I think...

I find modes to be pretty useless in improvisation... I can't ever get the other guys to play the mode I want, so it ends up sounding sloppy. So it is better to stick with simpler stuff. Any opinion on this Ricardo? Using modes in composition is easy because I can make all the notes right all the ti...

Damn penelope, 4 posts! Well see there you go, you say that he is being cheesy on purpose. I personally think people that make cheesy music on purpose and only cheesy music (like primus) are very disingenuine and covering for a lack of being able to write music that coveys other emotions. Buckethead...
